Jody Demling (Courier-Journal)
Terrence Boyd update (http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/labels/Terrence%20Boyd.html)

The University of Kentucky basketball staff has been keeping up on Class of 2009 Terrence Boyd, who is now playing his high school ball in San Diego, for a while now.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Boyd played his AAU ball with top UK target Daniel Orton and had a break-out week at the LeBron James U.S. Skills Academy in early July in Akron, Ohio. He also attended UK's Elite Camp this past summer.

Boyd's recruiting had been considered wide open.

But last week, Boyd told the website - KentuckyInk.com - that he might be ready to make a commitment to the Wildcats saying, "the next time I get down there, I'll commit."

However, that was then and now the Northstar Basketball Blog (http://blog.northstarbball.com/2008/10/06/class-of-2009-school-lists.aspx?ref=rss) has a story up that is not quite as positive for UK's chances at landing Boyd. In an update of several '09 prospects, Boyd told the website that he has concerns about the UK situation.

He told the site that his coaches have been telling him "they have been reading (Kentucky) fans talking mess. If I find that out I guess it will be adios for them."

Boyd also told the site that his high school coach - Kenny Roy - told him he only has an offer from UK if Orton signs with the Wildcats.

"If that's so, then adios it definitely will be." Read the entire blog update here: LINK

(http://blog.northstarbball.com/)Boyd played as a sophomore at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson (Va.) but transferred back to his home - Norman, Okla. - last year and was ruled ineligible at Norman High.

He'll play this season at San Diego High School with one of the nation's top junior prospects - Jeremy Tyler.

I do not like reading that. :icon_frown: Thankfully, I have not read negatives in regard to Terrence Boyd here at WCN. Of course, then Boyd makes a similar comment in regard to the possibility that his offer is good only if Orton becomes a Cat. :shrug1:

Beavers lead for Top Fifty prospect

The Oregon State basketball program may only receive two signed LOIs this early signing period, but don't make the mistake that the Beavers aren't in on some other possibilities for the spring. Head coach Craig Robinson and his staff have beaten the bushes hard this fall evaluation period and as a result, they're in good shape with one Top Fifty prospect who has decided to ink late. "He told the site that his coaches have been telling him "they have been reading (Kentucky) fans talking mess. If I find that out I guess it will be adios for them."

Specifically, Kentucky fans have been saying that he has zero chance of qualifying, that UK has not offered him, and that UK doesn't have a scholarship to offer him.

"Boyd also told the site that his high school coach - Kenny Roy - told him he only has an offer from UK if Orton signs with the Wildcats."

If Boyd only knows about a scholarship offer from UK from what his high school coach is telling him, it confirms what Kentucky fans have been saying.

Saw where Terrence Boyd is considering Kentucky, and is one of the highest rated UNSIGNED players from the '09 class.

Haven't seen or heard much about him....here or really anywhere....but ESPN seems to like this kid. Their scouts grade him out very high, and also have Kentucky listed as the top school on his short list. The link below has a video of him, and he looks good to me. I like his jumper...smooth looking, nice form and release. Reports say he is inconsistent from the outside...but looking at the video, you have to believe he is/has developed a nice outside stroke...and could/will become a nice outside shooter at the college level.

Here's the video. Be interested in hearing what anyone knows about Boyd, as well as their thoughts and opinions on what they see in this video:

Both Rivals and Scout have Boyd listed as a 4 star recruit. Rivals lists him as a top 50 overall player from the '09 class as well.

Here's another video I found of Boyd. This one concentrates pretty solely on his ballhandling and penetrating skills and ability (which is a nice contrast to the first, which shows primarily the range on his jumper and shooting skills...which I like, BTW). It also speaks of Kentucky as being a school that, if able to land Boyd, would complete and really solidify the Cats '09 class...making it one of the top classes for '09:

Care to elaborate?

the kid openly and blatantly bashed Liggins on his Facebook page basically referring to Liggins as...well, and him being the toilet. I think you can figure the rest out from there.

Terrence says Liggins look like some s***… so since im the toilet i’ll flush that ****a down da toilet regardless if Yall think it or not.” Bucket Betta” No turnovas."

And then lets say that some UK fans get offended at the comment and write something back to you, and you respond with this:

Terrence is sorry to Daniel R. Brown and other fans who got but hurt for my comment about Liggins… Ill just let his game speak for himself…. Im a Trap Star.

http://new.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=10951 .

As for the definition of "trap star" I was at a loss but some of the commentors on the Jones site defined it as among other things, a drug dealer, someone looked up to in the neighborhood for making money, someone "getting it done", etc. One particular comment:

Obviously, I would know that the term “Trap Star” has been popularized in a Young Jeezy song.
Traditionally, a “Trap Star” is someone popular in his own neighborhood because of his perceived wealth, and that wealth is often generated from drug dealing or other illicit activity.

Plus his academics are an issue (if you can imagine based on this show of ignorance) and he most likely will go prep or JUCO. Sounds perfect for Huggins or Calipari. Brilliant to slam a player on a team that is recruiting you and you are listing at the top of your choices, ruin any chance of chemistry and create ill will BEFORE you even commit, pass on this idiot.

Aside from the nonsense above, there were SEVERE misgivings about Boyd's academic status (shocking, huh?) at one point. A couple of guys who would know claimed Boyd had no chance of getting himself eligible.

There was also the incident where Boyd or his coach accused Kentucky fans of "talking mess" about him on the web and the coach claimed that Boyd was seriously considering dropping Kentucky. This was four, five months ago.

Drama queen, sounds like.

Any player and coach who make rediculous statements such as these, if in fact they are true, and base them on internet chatter are too immature for me. Let them take their sideshow elsewhere.

Why havn't we offered him a scholarship? Are we waiting on another recruit or do we have enough?

Somebody posted this article (http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/jan/17/1s17p-cavers00447-3-cavers-basketball-coaches-are-/) about Boyd on another site.

Looks like trouble all around.
