View Full Version : Liggins and Galloway with academic issues??

There is a great deal of discussion on other sites this morning about the question of whether DeAndre Liggins will ultimately qualify. Matt May of TCP this morning added that he is hearing that UK is not nearly as confident about Liggins as they had been in the past and expect to get final word next week. I likely get asked about Liggins more than any other question right now, including by a number of people who I saw last night at Hoopfest. Here is my take on the situation (for what it is worth):

(1): Just a couple months ago, no one I spoke with thought Liggins could get eligible. The score needed was too high and it was considered almost a certainty that he would not be at UK.

(2): Then some things changed….Liggins did some more class work, got his high school GPA up, meaning he would need a lower test score. Confidence raised….

(3): Throughout that entire period, my best source on the subject from the UK end remained not confident….part of that is his cautious nature….part of it (I believe) was a thought that it was still a difficult hurdle to climb, even when public proclamations were to the contrary.
Now Matt May suggests that others at UK may be less confident as well. If that is the case, it conforms with the info I have heard for a bit from my source on it. Will he qualify? Who knows? But either way, we will likely know next week. I dont like to be a betting man on these things so I wont make a wager….but either result would not surprise me and I think a lot of the optimism for a while may have been a bit misplaced.

May also mentioned some concern over Kevin Galloway. I have no info on that and the only information I have ever heard suggested all was ok on that front. If that is not the case….well get ready for the Michael Porter/Buddy Halsell era….and call Hunter McClintock on speed dial!

we would be seriously screwed if they both don't qualify. I think we would struggle big time to even have a .500 record without both of them next year

Thanks for the link, WildcatRick.

I listened to Matt May on WLAP a few minutes ago. He surely did not sound optimistic in regard to Liggins' chances, FWIW. :icon_sad: In regard to Galloway, May said that he has been cleared by the clearinghouse. The problem is that he has not yet been accepted by UK.

I well remember how Kentucky's entrance requirements for jucos are quite tough. Highly talented athletes in the past have NOT been admitted --and have then been admitted to other institutions. I don't mean to scare anyone, but that has happened in regard to Kentucky football commitments in the past. May did seem to think Galloway would be admitted, though, so I really don't THINK there is reason for serious worry. Regardless, yes, I will be glad when Galloway is officially a Wildcat. GO CATS!!!

I think you, Rick, poodoo and Matt Jones should get a sponsor to buy a radio station (Jim Host?) and operate it. Perhaps JT would help out a little. POEKLM and Kendy and Terry and all could help.

I LOVE it, Matt! Too, I'm sure I'll be using that one a lot (although perhaps not as much as the smiley faces!:big_grin::big_grin:). Yes, it's definitely :5x:5x for Liggins' qualifying.

I like it!

This thing about DeAndre has taken on a life of it's own....kinda like a vampire.
I wish someone could tell me what's going on. Dave Kersey made a post that was pretty cryptic over on TCP....stuff about rules that are either new or no one has heard of before or are going to be enacted...mentioned
that he thought there was some possibility of the University of Kentucky
bringing litigation....and I can just imagine what kind of field day the media
will have with that, as well as reinforcing the super relations we already have with the NCAA.....

I don't know. This is beyond me. If anyone has any knowledge of what the problem is now, please post. From DK's posts, it doesn't really seem
to be the immediate academic things.

Maybe there's a rule saying you can't recruit two 6'6" point guards the
same year?:shrug1:

I believe that's the general consensus. Sounds like new rules that UK didn't know about or.....
