(I added a postscript to this post when a likely explanation "hit me." Yet, I had spent too much time writing it to delete it all. :icon_lol: Also, it shows my LOVE of UK football, which I know you folks here share. Hopefully, you will thus understand my original reaction).

I have just begun reading UK's latest "Blueprint" (and I always so enjoy and appreciate these). It shares the results of a "fantasy poll" that had been on the official site for UK athletics, one had I not seen. There were eight questions, and two UK fans who participated were selected to live out one of their fantasies.

One of the results BLEW MY MIND. I imagine that everyone who reads this football forum would answer the question as I would have answered the question. The question was as follows: "Would you rather sit on the UK bench during the SEC Tournament Championship game in men's basketball OR walk the sidelines with head coach Rich Brooks at the SEC football chamionship game?"

SIXTY-SEVEN per cent of the fans who responded chose sitting on UK's bench in the SEC basketball championship game. I know some say Kentucky is a "basketball school" (and I also love UK basketball, by the way), but COME ON! Forget the fantasy part. The UK football team's making it to that SEC championship game would be SO SPECIAL in itself. Right?!!!

Too, for me, walking the sidelines with Coach Brooks and the football team for such a SPECIAL, RARE event for Kentucky football (as of now, that is :icon_biggrin:), actually, the FIRST time, would be absolutely UNREAL. Meanwhile UK has won SO many SEC Tourneys under Coach Pitino and Coach Smith. Are fans not aware of the difference, or what! :shrug1:

Sure, some of you are thinking that some fans only follow UK basketball. Thankfully, though, forty-nine per cent of those polled, almost half, picked sitting in the press box at Commonwealth for an SEC football game OVER sitting in press row for basketball's Big Blue Madness. THAT result at least made me feel a LITTLE better, but I'm still SHAKING MY HEAD over the other choice. Surely MANY of the 70,000 who show up at Commonwealth missed the survey, just as I did!

What say you guys in regard to YOUR choices? :) I THINK I know you well enough to say the two questions are no-brainers for you, too. :)

P.S. Before submitting this post, I have figured it out. SLOW I was, I guess! :icon_mrgreen: My heart got in the way. yes, I would STILL answer the same without thinking twice. YET, the UK fans were wanting to WIN and actually live out a fantasy, and they did not BELIEVE in the football team's getting to that championship game! That's a shame. :icon_sad: Anyway, I still wish that UK fans had thought as I had thought, instead, for I so hate the image of our just being a "basketball school," :icon_frown: and those results make it APPEAR, wrongly, that we don't love our football in Kentucky. We DO LOVE Kentucky football! GO FOOTBALL CATS!!!

Actually, I had even thought of you, gerntz, and had essentially KNOWN your answer would be the same! :icon_lol:

Well, I could walk the sidelines or sit on the bench and yell at the officials. ;) But I'm with poodoo, being around all those players would be great!

You know, 'doo, there's nothing like the sound of the pads smacking & the mud & the smell of sweat on a FB sideline. There's no legal, grosser place. Both teams could be 0-10 & it wouldn't matter.

Depending on my mood at the time I could turn down a trip to the bball bit.

If the football bit were to come true I'd have to bring a lot of extra tissues.

I thinks it comes down to attitude and culture change of the program. It's going to take multiple seasons of success to sway alot of people. And as much as I hate to admit it, some of our fans need to get a grip. A great majority of our basketball history is 30-60ys in the past.

As former HS assistant football coach, I will take walking the sidelines over sitting on the basketball bench. The last year I coached I was promoted to OC from OL coach. The promotion included a move to the press box to call the offense. Sidelines over press box even with the added responsibilities hands down.

NEAT! Too, I read that a fellow had won that fantasy, but had not known that it was a WCN member. CONGRATULATIONS!!! The other fantasy award, by the way, folks, was sitting on press row for Big Blue Madness, and that one was won by a female.
