VA Tech has signed up to play in the Georgia Dome for the season-opener in 2009. (This year's game is Alabama v. Clemson.)

I think we should try hard to become their opponent.

Certainly, that's a tough way to start, but the benefits outweigh the negatives, imo.

Tell UofL we'll have to postpone our annual meeting as we have better things to do ...

Since the 09' game will be in Lexington, wont the UL game be moved back again like it was this past year ?

That is correct.

CAPTAIN BURBON.... Louisville will always despise us for that but it's a "SMACK IN THE FACE" when we "do" have better things to do than start the season out with the Cards.. (Thanks Coach Brooks!!!)... Love the idea of VT for the season opener... GOT MY VOTE.. It's just another way for us to stick it to the ACC early on in the season... It's fun to see the CATS run the score up early on but it would be even more interesting to see us drop an ACC team with the season opener... YEAH!!!! Stick it to em'...

I can't find a link, but I thought the '09 non-conference schedule was already full, or at least nearly full. I remember UK signing a 2-home, 1-away deal with Akron that was supposed to bring Akron here this season and again in 2010 with UK opening up their new stadium in '09. This season's game was cancelled, but I don't know if that was just this year or all three games. There was also some discussion about adding Miami (OH) and playing one game in Lexington and the other at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. It also seems like we have a game scheduled with Temple every year that gets gets scrapped at the last minute, but I don't know if those games were erased from the schedule or just moved back a few years.

Regardless, I don't think it would be a good idea to schedule a program as strong as Virginia Tech. Even as far as this program has come recently, they still haven't been able to post a winning record in conference play, and until they can consistently be .500 or better in the league, they're going to struggle to be bowl-eligible. Because of that, there's absolutely no reason to put probable or likely losses on the schedule.

I think we're going to see the non-conference schedule be Louisville and 3 patsies for the foreseeable future. But when they're ready to take a step up in scheduling, it would make more sense to add a middle or lower tier team from a BCS conference (e.g., North Carolina, Oregon State, Northwestern), not someone like VT or Ohio State.

Very good points, Doug. I agree completely.

I would like to see UK renew the rivalry with Virginia Tech. We use to play them fairly reguarly in '70's and '80's. UK actually leads the series 11-6-2

If we play VT in 09, I wouldn't bother to play LV that year. I don't mind playing them, but every year isn't necessary & I think a distraction to the real season. They're not the SEC.

Unfortunately we are stuck with having to play them. There would be the biggest uproar if the series ever got cancelled.
