Actually, you still have all these things in the early fall plus college fb. From early Sept. until mid to late Oct., we have the best of both worlds.

That's why I want a second CFB season: mid-March thru May with bowl games over 4th of July holiday in cooler northern areas.

Blue4ever, summer and its hot weather is not my favorite season, although I do love the water sports. HOWEVER, I am DEFINITELY "with you" on that last statement. In fact, I love UK football BETTER THAN, ... well, just about anything! :icon_mrgreen:

I have deemed the last 2 weeks in October the greatest time of the year.
Imagine:
NFL - Regular season in full swing
College Football - UK and SEC night games
ML Baseball - World Series (10/22-10/30 this year)
College Basketball - Pre-season and pre-season tournaments
Keeneland
Hockey - NHL has begun
Yes, this all occurs at the same time during this period. (Sigh.)

Also the NBA starts at this time. So that means all the major sports in the USA are going on at the same time. I hadn't thought about that. :)

It's definitely my favorite time of the year, too, UKGrad87. I would have to strike the last two off the list, though, and add NBA basketball to the list. Too, for me the top two are, without a doubt, UK football and UK basketball, followed by the NFL.

I am really excited for football to start. I actually just got off the phone from ordering my NEW UK FOOTBALL Posters for my office. I gotta show these Notre Dame/IU/Purdue followers what the BLUE is all about.

I can't believe I left off the NBA and my beloved Celtics. The hockey reference was more for effect. Yeah, if you include hockey as the 4th pro sport all 4 are occuring at the same time at the end of October.

There's nothing else like football period! I'm in the process of finding out the dates & times of our local high school football scrimmages. A typical week for me in football season goes as such:
Monday Night NFL
1 middle school game
1 freshman game
ESPN Thursday night game
High school game on Friday night
On Saturday, either a trip to Commonwealth or one of the local small colleges, or simply getting up and turning on Gameday and watching any number of games from noon until the end of the ESPN scoreboard show.
NFL on Sunday & Sunday night.
Not to mention, I may even tape a game or two from Saturday or at the very least watch parts of the CSS replays during the week.
It's a good thing my wife loves football almost as much as I do.*LOL*

That's a great idea, and at the very least I've always wanted to see something akin to what high school football does with jamborees. Consider the following. Instead of the mostly lame spring games, all conferences could have a spring practice ending jamboree.
The SEC could go something like this:
Host schools in any given year would obviously have to have an artifical playing surface. You could use the Jawja Dome, Louisiana Super Dome, Neyland, and Legion Field as places big enough and with the right surface to host it.
Each team would get 4 quarters of play for their starters and rotation guys, and 2 quarters for the guys who rarely get in the game.
It could go something like this in an East vs West format:
Friday action
10:00 AM - UK vs Auburn starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
12:30 PM - Vandy vs Arkansas starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
3:00 PM - South Carolina vs Mississippi St. starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
5:30 PM - UT vs Ole Miss starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
8:00 PM - Florida vs Bama starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
10:30 PM - Georgia vs. LSU starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
Saturday action
10:00 AM - Vandy vs Mississippi St. starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
12:30 PM - UK vs Ole Miss starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
3:00 PM - South Carolina vs. Bama starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
5:30 PM - Georgia vs Arkansas starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
8:00 PM - UT vs Auburn starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
10:30 PM - Florida vs LSU starters for 2 quarters, 1 quarter for subs.
I didn't spend much time picking the opponents, but you could possibly arrange the games to have it where most teams wouldn't have to play the same opponent that they play in the regular season. You could also have some contests for the players between the games (fastest back, lineman, longest throw, punt, etc.)
This could be a huge event and money maker for the SEC and other conferences (no way ESPN doesn't pick this up), as well as a boon to the host city economy. It would also be reat for the fans. I can easily see me and my wife scheduling vacation around this and making it a 3 or 4 day weekend out of it.
JD, I love that idea and it would be great if not too close on the heels of the NCAA BB tourney. Of course, this is too good for the SEC and the school admins to think of and do. :icon_rolleyes:

IMO the last weekend of April wouldn't be too close to the tournament. This thing would absolutely dwarf the SEC basketball tournament as well*LOL*

If you're talking college sports, I agree. I gave up on MLB after their last strike.
