So the WR's are probably the week spot of the offense. I have noticed that the roster has HUGE depth at the position though. We got some good recruits (boyd and cobb esp.). So who will make the depth chart and who will redshirt?

So much of these questions are attached to one another. So it is kind of tough to figure out who the receivers are without figuring out who the QB is or the RBs for that matter or what our primary sets will be.
1. I think we assume to often that we will run a similar air game next year and that may not be true. We might run off tackle more which would mandate good blocking guys at WR.
2. which QB is it? Are we going to see some roll out and scrambles that would necessitate WR thinking on their feet and getting open? Or more of a pocket passer that would necessitate crisp route running?
Here is who I think starts:
1. Dicky Lyons
2. DeMoreo Ford...Unless they redshirt him to keep him around.
3. Jones or Henderson. Depends on who is faster and what they decide to do with Jones this year.
4. Boyd. Though I really wanna RS him. I think I heard Boyd talk a line about starting this year...so who knows.
I still think we will rely more on our short game than usual because people know Dicky and Ford can be threats. Someone has to step and be this years Tamme and Steve and make themselves the stand out #2 guy.
As for the rest? Redshirt the new guys, and rotate the rest to see who can think on his feet the best, we have 3 games we can afford to work these minuta out in.
DeMoreo Ford...Unless they redshirt him to keep him around.
Has previously gotten a redshirt and has two more years of eligibility remaining.
Jones or Henderson.
Henderson is a TE.
Of the Frosh, Boyd and Cobb will certainly be in the rotation.

Ah. Thanks RV. I was reading the ukathletics page for Ford and it didn't say he got an RS, was that a medical one his Freshman year?
I honestly cannot beleive we let Cobb and Boyd into the rotation. Yes, they are good but I cannot help but think that some of these RS Freshman are experienced and probably physically more mature than those two.
I have faith in Joker finding a good four out of the ton we have.
What about Jones? Do people think hes going over to the D or going into a committed WR position?

Last I heard, Jones was 100% defense. Some think he and Paul Warford will be battling for the job opposite Lindley, although Warford certainly has the inside track.
As for the other WRs, I think only Lyons is a lock. Lanxster (sp?) is touted to have a lot of talent, but I do not know that he has shown much yet. Ford is a GREAT blocker with good hands, but has not really shown the ability to get open and be an inviting target. A number of the RS guys seem to have some skills, but none has shwon any consistency and a few have had injury problems. Two or three of the true freshmen could play if the vets don't step up.
But, right now, it is ALL a mystery. Remember, even Keenan Burton came here as a DB. Who knows what this staff will put together?
As for our sets, I would not expect them to vary greatly from last year nor do I think they will vary substantially depending on who the QB is. Joker has come out and said as much. While everyone agrees that we have a number of outstanding backs and a deep and talented OL, none of that will matter if we cannot throw the ball. So, no matter who lines up behind center or on the outside, look for us to try to throw the ball.

Kyrus Lanxter was the only one to score last year for the UK JV.... He had a 34 yard reception at WR... 89 total yards in the game.. Hope that he is the one to step up this year and make the difference.. Think that maybe he paid some attention to Keenan and learned from him while he had the chance... Looking forward to seeing what CRB comes out with in firepower in the backfield, QB and WR this year!!! It's going to be interesting. Even though most are young, I think the they are all talented and will step up for he occasion this year... Don't know if I can wait another 6 weeks for football season!!!!!!!! ;)

I did an interesting thing last spring. In the stadium before one scrimmage I took notes and did a tally (sp?) counting how many catches each receiver made during warm-ups. There was nothing scientific about it however it was interesting to see who made two catches and who made seven. Trends developed. Those with good hands became apparent. It might be worth watching as the summer practices begin.
I expect help from the young players.

I guessing the OP was referring to Terrence Jones - not David.
