...now in a soft cast.

Tuesday Football Notes

Also, it seems like sophomore wide receiver Kyrus Lanxter will be limited when Kentucky begins practice on August 5. During 7-on-7 drills a few weeks ago, Lanxter and DB Trevard Lindley were battling on a route that took both of the players to the back of the end zone. Lanxter made the catch but both players came face to face with an offensive lineman metal chute used for drills, a chute that was unfortunately left at the back of the end zone.

Trying to miss hitting the chute, Lanxter strained some ligaments and suffered a bone bruise trying to break his fall. he is in a soft cast for six weeks

If I'm not mistaken, Gerard Parker was injured in a similiar incident a few years back. Even though it shouldn't have been left there, you'd think one of the players or coaches would have seen it and had it moved.

The report never said what part of his body is injured. Or, if it duid say, I missed it. I presume it is an arm or wrist or something and not a leg, knee or ankle, right?

You're right about Gerad Parker, and I had thought of that as I had read about Lanxter, Matt. Too, I really hate to read this news as the coaches had especially been counting on Lanxter, who is the most experienced wide receiver behind Lyons and Ford, and, of course, DeMoreo has been recovering from surgery. It's bad news. :icon_sad: Let's hope Aaron Boyd quickly catches on to the offense, along with the other freshmen at that position.

I know this is TOTALLY off topic, but when they start practice on Aug. 5th are those practices open to the public like the Spring practices were? I doubt it, but I would love to make the trip if they are.........

Sorry to hear about Kyrus... He's a pretty good kid with good hands... Hate to hear news like that about any player, especially if it's one of our ALCOA kids... If they are open to the public for practice, I sure wouldn't mind taking a trip up there to watch them during the week sometime with my boys.. They would both enjoy watching them practice.. If anyone gets an update on open practices, PLEASE let me know... Thanks all...

Kyrus is a great kid. He stopped by to visit with me while I was camping out for Big Blue Madness tickets last year. He stayed and talked for quite a while. When I was at an open football practice later in the year he ran over and asked if I remembered him. When I said "Of course" he smiled ear to ear and patted me on the back. Truly a fine young man.

So sorry to hear about his injury. He could be a key to the WR's this season.

With so many other ways to be injured in football, you hate here about one like this. Hopefully he recovers quickly and they learn to put the chute away.

To address the chute being left out of place....during the summer, and prior to the allotted and official fall camp, things are kind of like this: players are allowed to use any UK sports facilities they want, provided they follow facility rules and schedules. Coaches are also allowed to be in or around the same facilities. However, as I understand it, coaches, staff and players cannot co-exist in the same location, or it is considered a supervised affair, or "practice." So...the players can use the field, but the staff can't be there to do things like move sleds out of the way. Sure, the players should have known better, but remember they are just kids, and they won't do anything they don't have to (like moving heavy equipment). :)

Thanks for the explanation. I had questions similar to the other posters. That explains a lot.

Thanks for sharing, WildcatRick. Too, I liked Lanxter's positive attitude, as he said he at least could get in better condition now, running more while unable to catch passes while wearing the cast.

UK sophomore wide receiver Kyrus Lanxter suffered a strained wrist ligament in a summer workout recently. Lanxter has been fitted for a protective cast and should be able to participate in fall camp. The cast is expected to be removed before the season opener with Louisville on Aug. 31. Lanxter played in only five games last year and caught one pass for 6 yards, but he is still one of the most experienced members of a group of wideouts that may have to rely on several true freshmen.

Coach Brooks at UK has always had closed fall practices and I don't expect that to change. You can find out for sure by calling the football office. 859-257-3611
