How 'bout we offer more encouragement to this young man who is out there working his tail off to lead our team to further greatness in the future? He loves and respects our program. Let's show him our love as only we can. Fans of the greatest program in college basketball. Van Coleman says he has already noticed improvement in his game. 42" vertical with 4.3 40 speed. WOW! Put it all together and look out. He is still very very young. I have faith in the young man.

The kid appears to have the right attitude and focus to be the type of player that UK fans will fall in love with.

I could care less what the gurus say about the kid..........Remember Tyus Edney? Not saying he's as good as Edney but you get the picture.
If nothing else, Vilarino could be a very good 4 yr. player coming off the bench. I don't think you need 12 McDonald's All American's on the team. Just ask Duke............

Thanks so much for this article, Gunsmoke. I agree, we need to show GJ the love!

Coach can teach defense. Coach can teach offensive schemes. Coach will motivate you. But, the old adage remains true: can't coach speed (although maybe Coach can.) I'll take a decent ball player with spectacular speed any day of the week!

"Kentucky wants to play with four studs at other positions and a great IQ out top."
I'll vote for that. It worked for the '96 team.

I think this is where Gillispie's going, too.
Still, he's busting his tail for John Wall. All over the country watching his games. If Wall signs on (which I think is probably a longshot), then GJ's really going to have to toughen up his game if he wants to contribute right away. He'll potentially be playing behind Wall, Liggins, Galloway, and the senior Porter.
Sounds like with both GJ and KC, shooting is a big issue. You can have all the IQ in the world, but it's really tough to play the college game as a guard and not be able to shoot the ball. People bring up Anthony Epps a lot when talking about undervalued point guards, but Anthony could really shoot.

I just don't want to see another Brandon Stockton sitting on the bench for 4 years.GJ should be fine but it may take a season or two.
The good news is both know they need to work on shooting and are. I don't think this is a Wayne Turner situation where they have absolutely no outside shot. Plus in Turners case I am not so sure he ever even worked on it in HS because no one could stop him from driving. They have both said they are really working hard on their shot so hopefully they can at least get to be a threat from deep even if they are never fantastic.

I hope the kid can come here and contribute but it looks like Gillispie is trying hard to get another point guard for 09.

Doesn't hurt to have depth. If BCG's version of Kentucky basketball is hard nose defense from opening tip to final horn, you need depth because it takes more energy to D it up.

I've had criticism on the boards about him before, but I appear to be wrong. Everyone wants that 5-star PG and for GJ to decommit. If this kid signed with Roy, the media would have him as a 4-star and a top-75 player. I think he'll end up a 3-star but with the ability to do far more.
This kid has great athleticism and has stong love and desire to be a Cat!! Also, Billy got him early and his recent progress shows why Billy jumped on him.
What more could you want? I hope GJ keeps working and proves his critics wrong.:widcat:

Like ya say nothing wrong with depth, been needing some of that lately, my sons have only been in high school ball but something about better practices comes to mind. Come to think of it we have had a few spark plugs off the bench as well :icon_surprised: So if the most he does if dish it out from the bench GREAT, but I agree with some of the others, what he wants to be or his Heart is hard to beat !!
