When quarterback Jeremy George entered the Piedmont (Calif.) High School football coaches' office to talk to Kurt Bryan, he noticed an unusual formation on the dry-erase board.

At first, George thought the formation was meant for the punt team.

No, Bryan said, that's our new offense.

George looked back to the board and was a little confused.

"Initially, the first thought I had was, 'I'm pretty sure that's illegal,' "

George said. "I've got to admit I thought it was a little crazy. I think most of the players thought it was crazy. A lot of people were a little skeptical."
And for good reason.

Bryan, Piedmont's coach, and Steve Humphries, the director of football operations, had developed an offense in which all 11 players on the field potentially are eligible to catch the ball. Though they weren't certain it was legal when they first concocted the idea, they were willing to implement it for the 2007 season.

Saw this on Yahoo sports earlier. I cant believe how brilliant this turned out to be. Kentucky could easily use this with Pulley and Hartline. I like how the defense is never gonna know which QB gets the ball snapped to him. and then if the rush is bad the QB dishes it to the next QB who can throw just as well. Its also cool that which ever QB doesnt run the ball the other QB acts as a full back and leads through the hole. I hope this is adapted in the NCAA and eventually on the NCAA video games haha.

I know I sound like an old-school geezer, but I don't care. :) This is a different formation, not a different offense. It is to my eyes like a spread option with a new formation.
There are still several things I see here that are present on every team with an effective offense:

1. O-linemen who run-block well.
2. O-linemen who pass-block well.
3. Receivers who catch the ball, instead of drop it.
4. RBs and receivers who make yards after the catch.
5. Downfield blockers who execute well.
6. QBs who throw the ball accurately.

I saw this while I was cruising rivals yesterday afternoon. Interesting, but someone will come up with a defensive scheme sooner or later to stop it. Then again, someone must have if this school went 7-4.

Half of their losses came in the first two games while the team was getting acclimated to the new system.

Yes, and the other half was after the team was 'acclimated' to the new system ... er formation. They lost the last two games of their season, including a 56-21 beating in the playoffs. Looks like their formation was stopped pretty well if you ask me.
