But despite losing a bevy of offensive talent to the NFL, Brooks still believes his team can beat anybody on its schedule, thanks in part to what's expected to be his best defensive unit at UK.
”We're better in some areas than we've ever been,“ he said. ”We have question marks like a lot of teams do going into the season replacing starters, but I believe we have talent to replace those starters. I understand why people have a hard time putting us in the same sentence as some of the upper-echelon teams in the league because history doesn't necessarily support that, but having said that we're a much better team and we're capable of beating anybody we play.“

I still wonder why we had so many doubters about Coach Brooks a few years back. I've been a huge supporter of his since he got here and reading articles like that just cements that support. We love ya Coach Brooks!

Considering Coach Brooks is a no frills straight shooter, I believe whatever he says. His pre-season outlook the past two years has been dead on. He knows what the team can and can't do.

Why doubters? Because so many don't realize how much FB is a numbers game & thus didn't appreciate the devastation the probation caused both in numbers & quality. Net, they only looked at results.
Frankly, I think we're still experiencing lingering effects in that the overall physical quality we have would be higher today had we not had the poor pre-2006 results. Only for the 2009 class is overall quality of recruits really starting to pick up off the two 8-5 seasons IMO.

I agree totally, gerntz.

Nail meet hammer.
We're still on an upward tick because our talent level is slowly increasing. That's why I don't expect a step back this season. In fact, I expect a better overall record as we have a better overall team and a favorable schedule.
