HOOVER — When Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer pulled into the front drive of the Wynfrey Hotel on Thursday morning, he had no idea of the surprise that was in store for him.
A stealthy process server quickly handed Fulmer a subpoena that directed him to testify in a deposition two days before the Tennessee-Auburn game, reopening a long-running NCAA saga that many assumed was over.
Fulmer spent much of the afternoon denying that he received the subpoena or claiming to have "not seen" the document. His only comments on the matter were impatient denunciations of the lawsuit.
