I have a 15 year attendance streak. I wouldn't attend a wedding during a home football game for myself.

I had to miss the lsu game last year cause my sister n law was getting married on this day i could have died.. and the wedding was in tennesse i had my cell phone out the whole time checking every play.. My wife was ready to kill me... i even had tennesse fans cheering for uk. we got to the reception just in time to see the last play of the game and everyone else was sitting down and when they saw my reaction they knew that uk had won the game.....

How close to you is the friend? Had to miss the LSU game last year because our annual trip to Ky Lake was that weekend. Fortunately, was able to watch it in the cabin. So far no conflicts this season, but stuff happens. Go to the wedding.

Can I presume you're single?

There are only 7 UK home football games. That leaves 359 (366 - Leap Year - minus 7) other days in the year for all that other stuff; or, 45 other weekends if you have to have your wedding on a weekend.

Any "friend" of mine would know better than to schedule something important the same day as a UK home game.

I skipped my Grandparents 60th anniversary last year to go to the LSU game. Mainly because my mom said I'd be stupid if I didn't.

None of my friends would schedule a wedding between September 1 and Nov 30, so it's a non-issue.

No way would I miss a UK game for a stinking wedding.

My wife's little sister got married on 10/13/07 @1:00 PM. This happened to be the exact kick off time for UK LSU.... needless to say I had to attend the wedding. Now there are 40 to 50 people there and I am running back and forth between the reception and my wife's car to get updates on the game. Well I am profoundly hearing impaired so there was no being subtle about checking on the game. SO when I got an update everyone within 50 yaards of me got an update also. We did make it home in time for me to see the second half and the OTs. But it was a traumatic experience to say the least.......

...but which game is it? ANd what are the stakes. I assume a good friend to be IN the wedding...BUT other things do play into this. Either way, Go Cats!

Like I tell my family...there are 12 times a year when I don't want life to interrupt my Wildcat addiction. You can have the other 353 days, but on those 12, don't plan anything important, including death.

A few years ago I confess that we went to a nephew's wedding and did not stay for the reception. My husband drove from Madison, Indiana, as fast as he deemed not too risky. :icon_mrgreen: Holding up a large towel with one hand, I was able to change "decently" from dressy clothes to UK football apparel on the way to Lexington (and my husband only had to change his shirt when he arrived and, naturally, did NOT need a towel :icon_mrgreen:). We missed the kickoff, but we got to watch the game. True confessions.

AGGGGHHHHHH.

My nephew scheduled his wedding during Senior Day this year. I am beside myself. I cannot imagine WHY he had to do that. But, sadly, i will mis my first Sneior Day in ten years.

I keep hoping, hoping, they will elope. But the odds are not good.

I had to make a decision like this last fall.

here is a copy/paste of a post I made back in May in a thread titled
"10-13-07...What a great day"

Ok my story of the game goes like this:

watch first quarter at home in fancy clothes since I'm about to go to a wedding. Two of my best friends are marrying each other and I have to go. gator fans no less so they pick this UF off-day to hitch.

girlfriend and I drive to the wedding, get to listen to a bit of the game on XM. The outdoor wedding is short and sweet, so I make it to the car before the reception, it's 3rd quarter and we're down 27-14 and I figure we're done for. Go back to the party for a while, wait about an hour, then go to the car again. This time it's late in the 4th so I can't leave right ? meanwhile my girlfriend who doesn't care about the Cats or know really anyone at the reception is inside waiting for me. Of course my friends who married are huge football fans and can understand why I'm out there, so they're not offended. Tim, the groom, even came out to check the score, I told him to tell my girl that I'd be in soon. Now check this out....I'm sitting in a 98 Accord with the sun going down in the grass parking lot of Kanapaha Botanical Gardens (and reception hall), windows down, no one around, and the XM BLARING the UK-LSU game. and the car next to me had a cooler full of beer sitting behind it that the wedding party left there for later. I knew they wouldn't care so I had ice cold beer within 10 feet of me and a few trees nearby to you-know-what in during commercials. But it's OT and those commercials go fast so I've got no time to go back in and say anything to anyone. Well I was out there for the whole 4 ot's and it was incredible. I ran back inside screaming, and people who got the score on their phones were giving me high-fives and saying congrats since they all know who I root for.

and then there was Zena, my girlfriend of 6 years, and I had some serious smoothing over to do. I missed the buffet service you see....and a plate of cold food was waiting for me on a table next to one ANGRY woman. Eventually I was able to explain the MAGNITUDE of the game to me and convince her that it wan't my fault that the overetime period lasted over an hour.

incidentally I don't regret a thing.

Awesome.

It seems that lsu game 10-13-07 was a big wedding day in the southeast. I know the gators were off that day, but can't remember who else was.

Two UK football fans were in the Orange lot tailgating. A funeral procession goes by on Nicholasville Road and one of them stops what he's doing, stands and places his big blue cap over his heart until the procession passes.

His fellow fan tells him he's very polite for such a gesture.

The guy replies that it's the least he could do since he'd been married to her for 37 years.

Well you know I'm not much of a fan as I'll be in Barcelona for the UL game & on a ship for the next two. Brian, think there's any chance of dinner being over at 9:30 in Barco?

There is surely another one somewhere out there, johnkyblue. :icon_mrgreen: I say that as an old, happily married gal with those priorities. :icon_biggrin:

Too, again, I love your story, CatFan. Also, SBCatMan, I extend my sympathies to you in regard to Senior Day. I so understand. In fact, Mr. Poodoo (who, thankfully, "loves" UK football, BUT everything is relative :icon_mrgreen:) will be deer hunting that day, so I'm already planning to have a daughter-in-law or friend join me. In regard to priorities, sometimes it's the MALE's priorities that are the problem. :icon_mrgreen:
