Is there anyone else who was sorely disappointed in regard to the CJ's lack of coverage of Coach Brooks at the SEC Media Days? Both Coach Brooks and Coach Petrino spoke yesterday. Coach Petrino, who is NO LONGER Louisville's coach (although I fully understand there is likely some readers' interest in Louisville's former coach), has a LARGE picture on the FIRST page and a lengthy article with many quotes from Petrino and a few from his Arkansas players. An article about Kentucky at SEC Media Days, one about half as long as the one on Petrino, appears on the SECOND page with only a couple of comments from Coach Brooks and his players and NO picture of Coach Brooks and very small pictures of UK's Jarmon and Lyons.

Personally, I think that's sad for a Kentucky "statewide" newspaper. :icon_sad: To his credit, Rick Bozich mentions Coach Books in his column about SEC coaches' salaries, saying that Brooks is "the league's leading bargain" (and, yes, to his credit, Bozich has FINALLY started giving Brooks deserved praise, rather than repeated columns about the need to fire him and hurled "digs" in Brooks' and Barnhart's direction). Also, I have frequently praised CJ columnist Eric Crawford. YET, just as I long for the days of Chuck Culpepper's LHL columns, I SO LONG for the days when the CJ sports section gave Kentucky every bit as much coverage as the Louisville Cardinals. As someone once posted here, the previous CJ owners fully realized that the CJ was a "statewide" newspaper. GO CATS! GO COACH BROOKS!

P.S. The coverage of Kentucky, unfortunately, is Pulley's arrest for marijuana possession (only called "drug possession" in the caption), which is found on the FIRST page in a BOLD headline. No, that does not mean I am at all sympathetic toward Pulley. :icon_frown:

I know what you mean poodoo, and it bothers me too, but I doubt we will ever see any difference. Bad news sells papers, and that's what they put on the front page.

So are you saying that Coach Petrino is "bad news," lighthouse? ;) Since my beloved mother taught me not to say anything at all about someone if it were not something nice, I'll just stop there in regard to Coach Petrino. :icon_mrgreen:

Most seriously, I'm TRYING to talk Mr. Poodoo into driving me to Lexington two straight weekends, making it to Fan Day. Are you going to be able to make it? Hope so! :)

Not at all, and I guess I said it wrong. :icon_redface: I should have said, bad and contraversial, which Petrino's story fits. When I was the manager of the Pro Softall team, The Kentucky Bourbons, we could win 3 out of 4 games and they would put a small story and the box score in the middle of the sports page. But, if I had to suspend a player for whatever, my phone would ring off the hook and that story would be on the front page. :icon_rolleyes:

Please remember, English wasn't one of my best subjects. :)

Oh, no, lighthouse, I had fully understood what you had meant. I was merely making a joke :icon_mrgreen: in regard to Coach Petrino (without "technically" violating my mother's expectations of me ;)). Too, the point you had CLEARLY made about media coverage is so true.

In regard to the CJ, though, I still think it's sad that they gave virtually NO coverage to Kentucky's head coach on SEC Media Days, while giving Petrino so much coverage (although he is indeed controversial right now). Too, as I shared on another thread, Louisville's Juan Spillman's "bad" news of being charged with marijuana possession a year ago had been buried in the CJ sports section, barely noticeable. Today's CJ is NOT the CJ of old:icon_sad:, when Louisville and Kentucky athletics were covered most equally and fairly. I think that difference was part of it, along with the point you well make.

Is no one else bothered that Coach Brooks and Kentucky got so little coverage on their appearance at the SEC Media Days? :shrug1: Just curious. :)

P.S. I came back to add to this post after reading today's CJ. To the CJ's credit, in today's edition the CJ has TWO articles about UK wide receiver Dicky Lyons, Jr. (one of the two UK player representaives at Friday's SEC Media Days).

Apparently, CG's in-town family sits in the opera's box seats while the extended family is hidden in the back along with UofL's skeletons of scandal and disgrace. Meanwhile, a stage production of Fidler on the Hoof (starring a certain Mr. Curtis) is played for the red-clad crowd.

Don't worry about it, poodoo. It's cool. It's just a different game today. We have the Hatfield and McCoy thing going...and once again, Lexington shows more grace and impartiality than...well, you know who.
