View Full Version : Timing
I haven't commented on the Pully situation untill now and all I have to say about it is that I don't know the whole story, the coaches will make the right decision and I'll be perfectly satisfied with whatever they choose to do.
BTAIM, I don't know who broke the story but does anyone else think the timing of the release of the news is a bit peculiar? I mean this situation has been brewing for a couple of months and I'm supposed to believe that no one knew about it until Rich was at the podium in Birmingham at the SEC media days? Oh really.
Not the day before or the day after.
Not the week before or the week after.
No - it was exactly the same day that UK Brooks would be in the spotlight.
Anyone else think this is just too coincidental?

Absolutely This Is more Media hype than story in my opinion. I look for the water to clear a bit in the next few days. I believe this story has been pverblown . Time will tell...

If i'm not mistaken he wasn't approached about it until after Media Days or even upon arrival back in Lex. I've read 3 or 4 blogs on SEC Media Days and not one mentioned it.
I don't think it was ever brought up in B'ham.

One thing that bothers me is the story was posted July 25th. It said he was arrested last month and plead guilty earlier this month. How is the world did this stay out of the news until now, especially in Louisville? It also said a UK spokesperson confirmed the incident. This would lead me to believe that the coaching staff knew about it.
Not really sure what to think, but something is missing.

LEX18 quoted coach Brooks as saying he wasn't aware of Pulley's drug citation until LEX18 broke the story. If he said that, I believe him. Coach Brooks is a very straight shooter in my opinion.

He was caught with an illegal drug. I believe it's more story than hype.

The timing that bothers me is that the story of Will Fidler's brush with the law (and I've shared the details of that incident, as told to Larry Vaught on the Fidler thread) directly follows the Pulley story. With these back-to-back incidents (and it's been a year and a half of clean noses, and the supposedly "dirty" nose had only been Marcus' "foolishly" trying to make homemade fireworks), I fear some in the media will paint a misleading picture of the Kentucky football program.
Back to the topic, also in my opinion :), the timing of the news about Curtis Pulley COULD have been SO MUCH WORSE. Actually, I shudder at the mere thought.
A reporter COULD have surprised Coach Brooks with the news while he was on the podium OR immediately prior to that. A much worse HORROR would be a Lousville media member's sharing the news a couple of days prior to the Kentucky/Louisville game. What if a Louisville media person had had the news since June and had shared it at that moment! Now THAT timing would have been a NIGHTMARE!
That timing could have been DISASTROUS to our chances to win the game over the Cards, particularly if Curtis had won the competition in fall camp and had been getting virtually all the snaps. THAT is honestly a scenario that scares me to death as I think about it, and it COULD have happened, since the incident had taken place in Louisville. I'm counting my blessings in regard to the timing of this news' coming out.
By the way, according to Larry Vaught, Coach Brooks was called by a media member with the story of Pulley's multiple incidents only a couple of hours AFTER he had returned from the SEC Media Days. Yes, thank goodness, it was THEN and not, say, August 29th. I most seriously shudder at the mere thought of the latter. GO CATS! BEAT THE CARDS!
