The early schedule quickly becomes a very big deal for the Cats and QB Mike Hartline. Following the pressure of playing in state rival Louisville, Kentucky can ease Hartline into the swing of things before heading into SEC play. The silver lining in all the bad news off the field is the fact Hartline will be able to get all the reps as the starting QB and really allow him to sink his cleats into the turf, knowing he's the man. With all the bad that has happened, a benefit can still be had.

This is why a team, such as UK, shouldn't play a monster out of conference schedule as some would like to see happen.

Matt, we so agree about that monster out-of-conference schedule SOME Kentucky fans want us to play. Too, to be totally honest, I would feel so much better about the Louisville game if we were only playing it as the third game this year.

As I just said on the other thread, I am SO thankful we got this news NOW, rather than closer to the date of the Louisville game. I think there's only the chance of "a snowball in August" :icon_mrgreen: that Curtis Pulley is our starting quarterback against the Cards, SO, yes, Michael Hartline should indeed be getting most of the snaps, which should be helpful. THAT is the silver lining in the cloud (and I always search for one, but this one is easy to see). :)

Listening to the morning show on WLAP, though, I grew a bit sad as I listened to a tape of an earlier Dick Gabriel interview with Coach Brooks. Coach Brooks was happily saying that they have TWO quarterbacks in which he has confidence, Pulley and Hartline. Well, I daresay they still have two quarterbacks for that Louisville game, but it's now Hartline and Fidler (and, no, I don't think Fidler's disorderly conduct charge, as it has been described, will cause him to be suspended). That scares me, particularly because the other quarterbacks are true freshmen. I always pray that players not be injured (and that's for our opponents, too), but I am now particularly concerned for that position. May ALL the Kentucky players please stay healthy. GO CATS!!!
