Antwan Odom DE, got hurt in the first practice of training camp. If his foot is broken, the Bengals have to be the most snake bitten team in the league! Dorsey, Irons, Willie Anderson, Pollack, Chris Perry, Tab Perry, Palmer, Webster, all the way back to Kijana Carter, Ickey Woods, Greg Cook, are you kidding me! @#$%^&*

Say it ain't so! (http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6900)

Whew! Only a foot sprain, that was scary. We need this guy (Odom) to sack the QB, help the DB's and take a little pressure off the offense. If they revert back to giving up 10-12 play drives of 10-12 minutes, it shortens the game and spells doom for the Bengals imo.

Defense rules (http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6917)

"He's very intense. We've got very intense coaches," said Brandon Johnson, a Cardinals backup in his two NFL seasons, clearly enjoying his revival under Zimmer. "They stress playing very sound, man-to-man defense, 11men to the ball, 11 men taking care of their own job...If you don't, you'll definitely hear about it."

The defense came out and played about as well as you could expect in a scrimmage.

Chad caught a huge pass from Palmer over Hall and is said to be coming along good by the trainers and he is being quiet which is good that were not talking about a wanted trade and focusing on the Ravens which is where they should be.

I just hope Chad will shut up.

He has been quiet all training camp and he and the Bengals agreed to a contract review at the end of the season so I think he will be quiet accept for calling out CBs and other players which is the Chad I like.

I guess it got me all worked up. :icon_redface:

Jlo has the strongest arm and can make the big throws to stretch the field, if the starter gets injured. Anyone remember when Carson Palmer of the Bengals got injured in the playoffs? His back up couldn't make the big throws downfield because of his weak arm and the offense stalled.Kitna led the Bengals to a halftime lead after Carson went down. Then came the infamous Chad tirade in the locker room. Those who saw it claim it disrupted the whole team and it was evident based on how they played in the 2nd half. I mean they had the lead and this clown was whining about getting the ball!

My respect for Chad dropped immensely after that. He's another TO plain and simple. If the Bengals start off poorly, you'll see the same Chad you saw in the offseason.

Chris Perry could be the fix for what's ailing the Bengal offense. We'll see plenty of him this pre-season with Rudi and TJ out.

After Wednesday's practice, the Bengals have one last workout in front of fans in Thursday's 3-4:30 p.m. session. After a closed practice Friday, the team breaks camp.

Following two summers of setting attendance records, Georgetown officials say they are looking at about a 50-percent drop and with two dates left are looking at an estimated total of between 25,000-30,000.

"The second week was better than the first and that never happens," said Eric Ward, the school's athletic director. "We expected the decrease, but we expected only about 20 percent."

He says these numbers haven't been seen since Marvin Lewis' first season as coach in 2003, the last time the team came off a losing season until this one. Ward always correlates crowds directly to how the Bengals are doing on the field and their ensuing expectations.

Plus, the economy, gas prices, and the late reporting date on a Monday combined to cut the crowds virtually in half.

The Bengals are among a few teams interested in Chris Henry, the same WR they had all the trouble with and then released him prior to training camp. This is actually rediculous for them to even think about resigning him, any thoughts from Bengal Nation?

ukwebfan
08-15-2008, 10:04 AM
Signing Henry would be as stupid as taking snaps away from the rookie receivers. Simpson and Caldwell were highly drafted and need to be developed.

Henry would just get in trouble again which is why nobody else has signed him. He's a police blotter crime waiting to happen.

Some players are privately against the move, but Thornton, the Bengals defensive captain last season, understands if the Bengals re-sign him.

"If he's going to play for anybody in the league, why not here?" Thornton asked. "The Bengals took a lot of crap for him. Why let him go somewhere else, and he goes plays for Dallas and he becomes a superstar? He knows this offense.

"If he screws up, he's done. It's a one-strike policy. If everybody is comfortable, if the NFL is comfortable with it ... in my opinion, as a friend and a player, I think the locker room would light up just to see him back because everybody's been reading about how tough it's been with him with foreclosures and all that."

Went to the game but couldn't find much to be happy about. Chris Perry continues to impress with the way he's running the ball but Carson and the receivers looked just awful to me. John Kitna looked like an all-pro against the Bengals' 1st team defense.

In the 2nd half, Jerome Simpson caught everything thrown to him I believe. The offensive and defensive lines were just horrible to watch the entire game. Special teams were taken to the woodshed by Detroit's units.

They have a long way to go.

Unbelievable! Watch the locker room split, spontaneously combust and implode before our very eyes.

I think it already has, Marvin was against the move and Thornton spoke that it would be a good move and TJ said in an interview that they could win with or without him and Chad was glad Chris is back.

But the owner has to listen when a Coach says he don't want a player or atleast here his input but it looks like Marvin, if he dont have a winning record is on the way out.

How do they explain this to the other players, fans, coaches, etc...? Unbelievable, what the hell are they thinking. He's not even that good of a player to take a chance on him being a distraction again.

Whatever good Marvin does during the week just doesn't get executed on weekends. And during the game, he absolutely has no clue when to challenge or how to manage the clock. It reminds me so much of Sam Wyche's tenure. An up and down performance followed by another up and down performance.

When Marvin talks durability and doing things the right way, I have no idea who he's talking about. They release a 4-time pro-bowler and other historically durable, solid people to keep guys like Chris Perry, Chris Henry, Antonio Chapman and Frostee Rucker. But it's not really about the players per-se. It's about money.

If you accept an affordable salary, they'll keep you on the roster or IR year after year. (Tab Perry, Ethan Kilmer, Perry, Chapman, Rucker). But play for them game after game with no off-the-field headaches and a huge contract, all the talk is just talk.

Third and long or inches (http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080922/COL03/809220379)

I say this team is a resounding third and 15. This is another lost Bungal season. Like a clueless and cheap lawyer of an owner, some things are meant to be.

A poor running game, poor pass protection and too youthful of a secondary gets you to 6-10 on the season, at most.

It's just a flat out mess. Just terrible. I feel sorry for a guy like Carson Palmer. You don't ever really hear anything from him and he has to go through stuff like this.

Carson just seems rattled. At times he's looked ok but he sure throws alot of high passes to his receivers. He just does not seem focused. Is it Chad? TJ? Henry? the offensive line?that has him out of whack, its hard to say. The offensive line looked better against the Cowboys and Carson looked a little more comfortable in the 2nd half. Perry needs to go. Fumbling 5 times in just over 100 carries is terrible. That fumble cost the Bengals the big MO and the game.Teams that are winners just don't make plays like that.

Palmer and Fitzpatrick have played with the same handicap: No running game. The Bengals are second-to-last in the league with 72 yards per game, allowing defenses the luxury of clamping down on the passing game because they don’t have to worry as much about the run.

The Bengals spent the early part of this week trying to figure out what they have to do to get the running game started.

“We’re not going to back off, but we’re not going to be stupid with it, either,” Bratkowski said. “I mean: We’re going to do what we feel we have to do to move the ball. And if we start to get more out of the pass game, then maybe the run game will kick in because we’re doing things better in the pass game."I'll believe it when I see it.

I left the Bengals game with under 5 minutes left. These guys get paid to perform but that's not an excuse. Nor is the fact that the score was 31-10. I was sick of it. i have alway been and always be a fan, but as long as they have a sell out stadium and people buying food and drinks that are way over priced, why should mike brown care? The majority of money is made from TV revenue and a small-market team like the Bungals gets revenue sharing money from the big boys. The actual figures are protected in the interest of a private company. Of course that didn't stop Hamilton County from building the stadium at taxpayer expense or offering other nice perks like parking revenue and practice fields. What's interesting is the former county commissioner who championed the stadium idea is now a Bungal employee and another high-ranking employee is on the city commission.

I love the Bengals (and the Patriots) but they are just about unwatchable. There are numerous problems at numerous positions and surely we can put a better QB on the field than Fitzpatrick, I really don't see how Jordan Palmer could do any worse. Wow! Just when it looked like the Bengals were moving forward, these last couple of years have been a gigantic step backward. The offense looked stagnant this season even before Carson Palmer got hurt, At least we will likely have the #1 pick this season.

This quote speaks volumes.

As was the case when Massillon built Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in the 1930s, or when it installed artificial turf in the 1980s, or its large digital scoreboard in the 1990s, or the million-dollar video-replay scoreboard three years ago, Massillon again is way ahead of the curve, and not just among high school football teams. The Browns' indoor facility is 20,000 square feet smaller.

"Massillon High School is ahead of us," observed Cincinnati Bengals President Mike Brown, the eldest son of legendary Massillon, Browns and Bengals coach Paul Brown. "We don't have one [an indoor practice facility]."

Brown said his father would approve.

The Bengals jumped out to a 17-0 lead into the second quarter and withstood a Redskins rally that ended at the 9-inch line in the third quarter.

With 6:27 remaining in the third quarter, the Redskins apparently had scored a game-tying touchdown when fullback Mike Sellers was credited with a run from the 1.

Lewis challenged the ruling on the field and won.

“We didn’t think he got in,” Lewis said. “I thought his progress was stopped prior to scoring.”

Washington was then third-and-1 from the 9-inch line. On the next play, Sellers tried to jump over the pile and pushed back. On his second effort, Sellers lost the ball on a fumble, which was knocked loose and then recovered in the end zone by Bengals linebacker Corey Mays.

“We were swiping at it, trying to get at it,” Mays said. “The D-line did a great job getting penetration. That’s a big momentum swing in the game.”

Redskins head coach Jim Zorn challenged, but the call on the field was upheld. The Bengals took over possession on their 20-yard line.
