Regular bottle openers have a way of disappearing. Is there any way to be sure one will always be there?

There are the metal ones you can attach with screws, but for tailgating, what would you attach one to? They are made to put on a wall in your bar or kitchen at home. Old-timey metal coolers had them attached or built-in, but nobody sells those anymore. Could you screw one on to a regular plastic cooler? I found a magnetic one you could put on the side of your vehicle but I doubt it would be good for your paint job.

Is there a way to attach a regular opener to a cooler with a cable of some sort?

Or should we just ban bottled beer and stick with cans? ;)

Here you go (http://www.restockit.com/Flat-Bottle-Opener--(BOT-8).html?source=froogle)

These are the best, from a functional and a cost standpoint.
Just tie them to any of the numerous guylines and straps that hang from any tailgating shelter and you'll always have one handy.

ps - However, we do try to limit ourselves to cans - they're easier to crush-down for the garbage bags, they're lighter, and many times the local Boy Scout groups come by after the game, pick them up, and recycle them for much-needed funds.

Anyone ever hear a bottle opener referred to as a 'church key'?

We always tied a shoestring to the bottle opener and then tied it to a cooler handle.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially UK Chic and UedK. "Church key" is what we called it when I was in high school.

I've got one that plays the fight song and will try the shoestring trick.
