Chicago PG for 2009 wants to visit Cats (http://kentucky.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=831673)
Between the time when Antoine Walker and Nazr Mohammad made their way south to Kentucky and when DeAndre Liggins signed with the Wildcats back in November, the Windy City wasn't much of a target recruiting area for the UK basketball staff. Much has changed in a short amount of time.

Current list: Florida St, Iowa, Kentucky, Marquette, Miami (Fla), Minnesota, Oklahoma, Providence, Purdue, and Bradley

The constant recruitment of other pg's for '09 makes me wonder more and more if we will ever see GJ in a UK jersey. Seems as though we after a different guy each day. Maybe thier is something to what my Texas friend told me last year. He said that BCG loves to over-recruit the pg position, and eliminate them till he finds the right guy. Someone who can lead his team the way he wants, and stand up to the pressure he puts on them. Only a very few can do that.

Mark Coury’s Thursday News and Views (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=6834)
by Matt Jones

Recruiting has hit a bit of a lull as folks try to sort out the 4,000 offers given by UK at this point and see what targets are getting the most attention. At this time, some focus has moved to Chris Colvin, a guard from Chicago who is 6′2″ and able to play both guard positions, but likely is targeted as a PG on the next level. He is a 2009 prospect with close ties to assistant coach Tracy Webster and the attention given to him by UK has increased in recent weeks (likely with the assumption that John Wall will be headed to Oklahoma State). Colvin is looking at a number of schools, including USC, Memphis and Gonzaga and Kentucky is in the top few on his list. His recruitment shows that UK’s desire to get a second point guard for the 2009 class extends beyond just John Wall and that the Cats dont feel set at the position just yet. Expect to hear more from Colvin soon and we hope to have him on the new Sportsnight next week on 93.9 FM.

From Jody Demling's blog (http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/blog.html)

Chicago Whitney Young guard Chris Colvin has an offer from Kentucky and is being recruited by assistant coach Tracy Webster. The 6-foot-2 senior is also looking at USC, Florida State, Memphis, Gonzaga and Minnesota. As a junior, Colvin averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 assists a game for Whitney Young.

For Chicago Whitney Young's Chris Colvin, the summer has been a time for him to showcase himself on the national level. In-state talent evaluators have always liked the 2009 point guard prospect, but after some strong play this summer he has become a wanted man for college coaches across the country.

From what I can tell from floating around the web (I do not subscribe to any sites) it maybe UK, USC, and Florida State. He appears to have absolutely no interest in Illinois. :shrug1:

Espn.com evaluation from July 2008 (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=53921&season=2009&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb %2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d539 21%26season%3d2009)

July, 2008: Strong and a good athlete. Has a score-first mentality. Can finish in transition and score in the half court where he is great at getting to the rim, shooting the pull jumper or the floater in the lane. Didn%u2019t show the 3-point shot when I saw him but got to the basket at will. Has good body control to avoid contact and good concentration to score at high speeds. Strong enough to finish through contact. Can drive both ways and uses the crossover and hesitation dribble to beat defenders. Does a good job of driving through contact once he starts a drive. He powers through the first bump from the defender, allowing him to draw fouls on a consistent basis. Being sold as a point guard but we're not convinced he is. Could help out bringing the ball up in a pinch because he is a good ball handler but never saw him trying to run the offense or get others involved. He can penetrate and deliver the ball when attacking to score. He is one of those players the defense knows is coming to the basket, but the problem is stopping him. Decent on-ball defender and uses his strength to body the ball handler to stay in front of him. Must improve shooting range and point-guard mentality if he wants to be recruited as one.

Colvin adds Illinois to his list (http://blogs.suntimes.com/lockerroom/2008/08/colvin_adds_illinois_to_his_li.html)

Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber, eager to rekindle the magic of 2005, is making a late but determined sales pitch to recruit senior point guard Chris Colvin of Whitney Young. And Colvin likes what he is hearing. He has added Illinois to his list of finalists--with Baylor, USC, Kentucky and Florida State.

"I had it down to three schools but I added Illinois and USC because they are the right fit," Colvin said. "Illinois and USC were my dream schools. But maybe they won't give me what I need. Maybe Baylor will have more of what I need."

I don't get what's going on with Baylor. Why the sudden popularity with recruits? In basketball, how could it give anyone what they need? Unle$$ it's something I don't see.

1. Chris Colvin -Can take over games with his ability to score the basketball. Strong! At his best attacking the rim for points, or easy buckets for his teammates.

Four-star prospect Chris Colvin of Chicago Whitney Young High School raised his stock with his strong play during the July evaluation period. The 6-foot-2, 174-point guard has since expanded his list to seven schools, but one Pac-10 school sits by at the top of the list.

From what I can find the Pac-10 school being referenced is USC.

Summer hoop program a big success (http://www.chicagodefender.com/article-1779-summer-hoop-program-.html)
by Larry Gross (http://www.chicagodefender.com/articles.by.Author-229.html) Chicago Defender Online

The Summer Madness Basketball tournament was once again a big success on the South Side. In its fourth year, the eight-week tournament recently concluded with the championship game at Brainerd Park. The Orange team, led by Ahmad Stark, Anthony Johnson and Chris Colvin captured the championship with a thrilling victory over the Green team before a jam-packed crowd that included NBA star Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers.

After some digging on the blog scene, it looks like the top three are USC, Illinois, and Kentucky.

Rank: No. 92 overall, No. 15 point guard in the nation
Schools in the mix: Iowa State, Marquette, Providence and USC
Visits: Colvin officially visited Iowa State and Marquette on back-to-back weekends this month.
Notes: Colvin said he will make his decision on Nov. 19 because it is his birthday. The date is also the last day players can sign a national letter of intent during the early signing period. He's one of the best on the board at point guard, and has long been a high-major target.
