It is a little scary thinking how good Smith could end up being. At close to 6 feet 10, 270 pounds, he is still expected to grow two or three more inches and the game comes so naturally to him. His rock-solid strength, quick jumping ability and gifted hands allow him to dominate the action around the basket. Smith is truly one of the more advanced centers on both ends of the court to come around in a long time.

Josh Smith, C (6-9, 250)
2010, Covington, Wash./ Kentwood
Smith is a strong, physical and super explosive around the rim. Smith power dunks on, over or around defenders when he receives drop-off passes created by guard penetration. He has good hands and runs the floor very well for a player his size. He can beat most centers down the floor for an early post up opportunity. When he anchors down in the low post he is a huge target that likes to shoot the right-handed jump hook over his left shoulder. Smith has a soft touch and elevates over the defense with ease. He has a nice stroke at the free-throw line where he executes a high release and good follow through. Smith's a powerful rebounder on both ends; he snatches the ball with two hands at rim level on defense and dunks in misses on offense. Smith must continue to add to his post-move package and work to stay in shape year around to continue his dominance on the college level. It is fun to watch him attack the rim with an attitude. He reminds me of a more athletic Glen "Big Baby" Davis.

Barnes, Smith tabbed high in '10 (http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/2008/08/barnes-smith-tabbed-high-in-10.html#comments)
Two players the three local schools - Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana - are all trying to lure to their campus rank among the top five players in the new Scout.com rankings of the top 75 players nationally in the Class of 2011.
Ames (Iowa) forward Harrison Barnes rose to No. 3 in the rankings, while Kentwood (Wash.) center Josh Smith checks in at No. 4 in the new listings. All three local schools are among a host of colleges trying to land the two stars.

Very few players experienced the kind of spring and summer that Josh Smith just had. The 6-foot-10, 270-pound center from Covington (Wash.) Kentwood went from a player that intrigued basketball recruiting observers to one of the truly elite players in the Class of 2010.

Six-foot-9 center Joshua Smith (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=44133) (Covington, Wash./Kentwood) is a physically imposing low post player who tries to dunk everything he touches. With his combination of size and strength, he is one of the best in the class at finishing around the basket.

Josh Smith, the top player in the Rivals150 for 2010, has become a hot commodity since the beginning of the summer. Along with that come rumors, tons and tons of rumors. In this interview, Smith clears up those rumors and speaks of his interest in Duke.

NBA prospects
Who is the most NBA ready player in the class of 2010?
-- Lee from San Antonio
-----
It's sort of tough to gauge NBA readiness for juniors in high school, since none of these players are actually ready for that level of play. But in regards to most ready, I'd put it as a toss-up between our top two prospects - Josh Smith (http://kentucky.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=64551) and Brandon Knight (http://kentucky.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=59767).
Smith, a 6-foot-10, 270-pound center, has the strength to play against men. If he grows an expected two or three more inches, he'll have legitimate NBA size as a center. Smith also has the skill level to play at the highest level. He can score to either shoulder in the post, is explosive enough to dunk in a crowd without taking a step, has a soft touch on his midrange shot and is an adept shot blocker.

We exchanged a few messages with the big man from Washington and he was clear that Kansas is a program he is very interested in and plans to visit in the future.
When you are 6′9″ 280 lbs, like Smith, people are going to notice. Now combine the size with good hands and good footwork, coaches are going to notice.
