Daniel Orton looks to be a one-and-done player. He says 2 years wont be bad, but he expects to be in the NBA in 2 years. However he is still looking for a college that he would love to stay at for 4 years.

On his future, Orton said, "I'm looking to stay one year. Two years isn't bad. But I look for a college where I could see myself four years because you never know what could happen."

One year can make all the difference.

One year can make all the difference.

Syracuse has a National Championship thanks to one year from Carmello Anthony.

Ohio State reached the Championship game thanks to one year from Greg Oden.

So yeah....I'd take one year from Orton. Two would be even better ;)

I agree with you guys completely. Just imagine if we get PPat to stay and sign Orton. Imgaine a front line(thats SF, PF, and C) of Harris, Miller, Galloway, Hood, Pilgrim, Harrelson, Stevenson, Patterson and Orton! That is an automatic national championship right there. That team could have killed the Florida team of the last couple years.

All I know is that Callipari is probably licking his chops.

Why?

Callipari always seems to go after Uk recruits for some reason(must have gotten it from Pearl) but I would say right now that Memphis isnt a big contender. Orton said that the number one factor he will consider when making his college decision is fan base and prestige of the program. If you ask me, UK is #1 in the country for both :icon_mrgreen:.

I would have to put UK as his leader because of that fact alone, maybe followed by Kansas, and then Okie State because thats where he lives.

No problems here with a "One and Done". Talent wins ballgames and most top notch talent will be in the NBA shortly. The key is for a coach to always have more talent coming in every year.

I'd take him one and done no problem!!

Cal has always been a tireless (if not shady) recruiter. I don't think it has anything to do with who UK is recruiting. No conspiraracy here.
Maybe now we finally have a coach who's even more relentless than Callipari? UK has stepped up recruiting efforts under BCG and it's beginning to show. You're going to see more and more top kids have an interest in UK- and we're going to be in more fights over top kids.

And hopefully we'll start winning those fights like we did with Patterson and Hood. Tubby lost sooo many recruiting battles because I dont think he worked hard enough. Tubby letting Tyler Hansborough, Corey Brewer, and Chris Lofton slip through his fingers was the beggining of the end for him.

Just off the top of my head you can add Brandon Wright,Thaddeus Young , & Kevin Durant to the list as well.

Orton has his list of schools down to seven: UCLA, Kansas, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, UConn and Kentucky.

The one and done is ruining the game, IMO.

For every Carmello Anthony, there are 2 dozen Durant's, Beasley's and Marbury's. They get that one year in and the school suffers for 2-3 following.

Give me a team full of talented players that are classified as a 2-4 year player, mix in the 4 year kids that develope more slowly but play the role and I will win twice as many titles as you with the one and dones.

I am a COLLEGE basketball fan, not NBA. I want to see my favorite player more than just one year like a hired gun just passing through.

I hate to put a poster up about one of Tipton's articles but I think everyone will want to read this.

Orton visits

In case you missed it, highly regarded big-man prospect Daniel Orton and his parents visited UK last weekend.

During the visit, Orton participated in a UK camp. His father, Larry Orton, a motivational speaker, spoke to the campers.

Orton, a top-20 national prospect from Oklahoma City, Okla., listed several schools while at the LeBron James Skills Academy in early July. They included UCLA, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, UK and UConn.

In theory, I agree with you (although I am an NBA fan as well as college...because I'm a basketball fan).

BUT....since the rules are what they are...I disagree that your approach is the way to win titles. Syracuse likely doesn't have their title if not for the one year from Anthony. Two years ago, Ohio State likely doesn't make the championship game if Oden is not there. The same goes for Memphis just this year with Rose. So no....I don't subscribe to the Tubby Smith method to recruiting (i.e. - recruit and bring in "4 year" players).

TALENT still wins....and if you bring in 4 year players only, you're bringing in the "lesser talented" players! The players with the true talent and ability to make a difference ARE the Daniel Orton "one and done" type players. A lot of people thought Patrick Patterson might have been a one and done as well...and who knows, had he not suffered the injury that ended his season prematurely, he may well have been another early entry into the NBA draft. But I'm betting that each and every UK fan is glad that Patterson was given a scholarship.

Right now, there is a proposal to mandate that kids stay in school for TWO years rather than the current one year. Now THAT would be the best solution, IMHO. That way, both the school and the player can prepare for at least two years...and pro teams won't feel as burned because they will have more of a track record of a player BEFORE they commit the big dollars assigned to guaranteed rookie contracts to these kids....

Kentucky was a 10-12 win team. The talent had slipped that badly.

I am not subscribing to the Tubby method either. Patterson is not a one and done and I would take 5 of him and win more games. Those guys you mentioned were great players, but only Anthony won it all and how long ago was that?

Give me a team like Kansas had. Good mixture there. You cannot have 5 one and dones on a team.

Sorry, just cannot stand the one and done attitude and ruling. Let them go straight to the league and quit acting like they are really student athletes. Most are not.

Orton would be a great signee for us, no doubt. But if all he is interested in is bolting to the league after one season, then I am sorry if I cannot get overly hyped. Pretty much old school whan it comes to this stuff.

Let's just sign him 1st and take our chances.
