down the Nile near Sudan. This, in my opinion, outshines the Pyramids and the Sphinx for beauty, wonder and inspiration.

As amazing as those temples are, it would have been even greater to see them prior to being relocated as a result of the construction of Aswan Dam.
The relocation was an amazing feat in itself.

Thanks for sharing this.

We were told that there were something like 40 temples under Lake Nassir.

It is amazing that they moved those massive structures.

What I hated about this leg of my holiday was what the Egyptian Tourism ministry has done to Giza. It's like a Disney World Nightmare. Buses mere feet away from the Great Pyramids. It costs on average 10 bucks a person to see each major site. Some as much as 40 dollars after you pay for all of the little extras.

It's disgusting.

Ten years ago, I rode a camel up to the pyramids and you could imagine that you were out in some far away land away from civilization. Now, you are constantly breathing bus exhaust.

I'll post some pics.

In 1997, I walked up to the pyramid of Khufu and lounged on it. I climbed almost to the top. I went inside them. No one was really around except a couple of tourist police and some Bedouins or local Cairenes trying to swindle us. Now they are surrounded. Throngs of folks. And roads....ROADS??? Why would they do such a thing?
