The first day on the tour of the SEC teams the Arkansas Razorbacks play this season was a routine 560 miles (eight hours ), after a practical joke basically failed.
I had turned the seat heater on high on the passengers' side before picking Shawn Arnell up in our borrowed Mazda 6 (2009, and it is sweet ), but the host of Sports Animals figured out what was going on in a matter of seconds.
We arrived here exactly four radar-detector warnings and eight hours after we left, had dinner at Joe Balogna's, a great Italian restaurant in an old Jewish synagogue, and then went to bed.
Monday morning, we got turned around a couple of times but finally got to the Joe Craft Center, the heart of Kentucky athletics, that was added to the old Memorial Coliseum, where Adolph Rupp ruled for many years.
Most of the wooden chairback seats are still in place, and while the Wildcats left here many years ago, it still has a great college basketball feel to it.
The first person we ran into was Glynn Cyprien, top basketball assistant for Billy Gillispie.
