Ultimately, Tark thinks that if you want to believe that his four Final Fours and his 1990 national championship are tainted, then you have to take a look at UCLA, too. I always believed that his fight with the NCAA wasn't so much about his own innocence, but the fact that there were competitors of his who had been deemed untouchable and never got popped too. This is what offends me about the ESPN/ACC bias towards Coach K as well as the racist agenda against Adolph Rupp.
There is no truth. Only perception in these "Saints" of the Sports World.
This could be Calipari and Coach K from this era.

I believe Tark is correct about UCLA. Wooden was dirty, and so was Harrick. And the thing that bothers me is that it is common knowledge, but it never gets mentioned. In my mind, every championship UCLA has won is suspect. I'll just say this about Wooden; if I see another "awe, shucks" interview with the guy, where the sportscaster fawns all over Wooden and kisses his butt for several minutes, I swear I will quit watching ball. Because you never know when one will happen. You would think it's just at UCLA games. Nope. You might be watching Cal St. Fullerton playing BYU, and there's Wooden. Waiting for his interview to get his butt kissed and say "awe, shucks". :thumbdn: on Wooden. Then, we have Coach Rupp, who gets slandered more than any other deceased person shy of Hitler. Oops, I shouldn't have said that. Some enterprising young sports writer will read that and write an article comparing Rupp to Hitler. Surprised it hasn't happened already.

...and then they will write Coach Rupp and Marge Schott were close friends :icon_rolleyes:.
Didn't Bill Walton (in a book, perhaps) admit he got paid at UCLA?

You got it Terry.
here's a portion from one of many articles on the subject:
Everyone loves a winner
By Dan Wetzel (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaab/expertsarchive;_ylt=Ak2MBRoGNYmvha7BgDLHCYfsxLsF?a uthor=Dan+Wetzel), Yahoo! Sports
April 2, 2006 INDIANAPOLIS – UCLA has the greatest, grandest tradition in college basketball: 11 national championships, 34 first-team All-America selections, an 88-game win streak and on and on. All run by perhaps the most wonderful gentleman the game has ever known, John Wooden.
But then it has this:
"I hate to say anything that may hurt UCLA, but I can't be quiet when I see what the NCAA is doing (to other coaches) only because (they have) a reputation for giving a second chance to many black athletes other coaches have branded as troublemakers. The NCAA is working night and day trying to get (them), but no one from the NCAA ever questioned me during my four years at UCLA."
That quote comes from none other than Bill Walton, maybe the greatest Bruin of them all, in a 1978 book "Bill Walton: On the Road with the Portland Trail Blazers," which went on to detail how Sam Gilbert, a Los Angeles contractor the feds allege made millions laundering drug money, bought a decade worth of recruits for UCLA.
"It's hard for me to have a proper perspective on financial matters, since I've always had whatever I wanted since I enrolled at UCLA," Walton said.

yeah, you just have to scratch your head and say, man, why are they so untouchable...USC football comes to mind also in this area....it's baffling....how they could turn a blind eye to blatant payment of players and boosters that are drug lords, etc and have garnered all that "success" and ZIPPO....
and you have a team like michigan with the fab five that garnered some success over a somewhat shorter period of time (how long i don't know) with similar gifts and perks to players and they take away the very small handful of banners they got....i.e. the death penalty....and really same for UK in the late 80's....that should've killed this program....but it was resurrected by R.P. and came back to rule and reign once again....but i digress....it's just baffling that this all will never "come to justice" as it were....when all the evidence...i mean ALL the evidence proves foul play

Im with you 100% on this one. You never hear them talking about the other ACC or SEC schools back in the Rupp era. Kentucky wasn't the only team with predominatly white players. We were just the team that was winning so that made us the fall guy. BS. Why don't they go pick on Alabama or someone like that.............

In all honesty, any team that stays on the top for a long period of consecutive years without a downturn somewhere is more than likely doing something wrong somewhere....either the boosters, the school, the
coach...there is too much competition out there and too much talent for
one team to dominate the way UCLA did.

well, without a doubt now that is totally true....i don't think many see it that way in the bygone days....i think many think that in the past decades the talent wasn't as spread out and your "biggie" programs were more dominant and got all the hot recruits....that may well be true, but i still think some bells and alarms shoulda gone off even if it was the late 60's and early 70's....i mean, look at Kentucky....we've been dominant in every decade since the early 40's....either a NC or FF in every decade...and had at the helm we had Rupp.... Indiana can almost say that as well (they missed a decade there i think)....they've had McCracken and Knight....but both schools have 12 between them.....those are 2 strong historic programs that have been on top of recruiting for a long LONG time (Kentucky's stronger IMHO of course) but they still don't have the NC numbers UCLA does....Man, i just think even back then some bells shoulda went off that something was up somewhere....no chance in Hades that kinda run will EVER go uncontested ever again though, that's a fact....unless it's UNC or Duke....

couldn't agree more....i stated that in my first post in this thread....USC seems to be one of thost on top of the world, untouchable programs.....i refer to it as the old "California stone wall"....it's not that you want to just see programs get levelled and glory in their suffering, just make it even for all programs.....don't favor one over the other....but that's life isn't it?....some get the noose, some get a blindeye
