Hey Dave...you got some great pics there. Thinking about borrowing the up-close one of the camel for my office if you don't mind.. That's a funny shot. Pleasure to read about your trip and see the photos.

I once saw a teevee program that explored some guy's thesis that the sphinx had once been a statue of a lion, and that some ruler from long ago, as they were wont to do, had the lion's head carved into his own. The main evidence supporting the thesis was that the sphinx's head is disproportionately small compared to the rest of the sphinx. I was convinced--it does look in photograpshs like the sphinx has a shrunken head--but I've never seen the real thing. Does it appear to you that the sphinx's head is too small compared to the rest of it to have been the original design?

Of all of the places on this great planet this is the place that I would most like to visit. I thought about trying to go next year but friends from Egypt suggested that this isn't a good time for Americans to visit.

I never looked at it with an eye toward discerning that. But the head does seem a bit small to me. Perhaps...

Brassow,

In the past 4 years, I have traveled to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah, Germany, France, and Qatar for work.

I've also traveled to China, India, Cambodia, Egypt, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos for holiday. ( Wow, that doesn't seem like so much now that I've listed it out.)

Each and every time that I have spoken with people about traveling to these places, someone has told me that it is too dangerous for Americans to travel there.

Yet, here I sit.

Tell whoever told you that to kiss my _____ or as Eddie Murphy infamously said in caricature of Bill Cosby/Richard Pryor tell them I said "Have a Coke and a smile and STFU!"

I've had nothing but great experiences out there. The only people who've really pissed me off have been a couple of sorry Canadians who were loudly talking smack about America. And they bought me a beer to calm me down.

I still plan on hitting South America, Nepal, Tibet, China and India again, Indonesia and a few other places. All places considered dangerous by someone or another.

If you pay heed to the cautions of all of the chicken charlies, you'll never do anything.

I typically agree with that and will eventually make it over there, if the tensions improve or not.

Dude, what in the world are you doing way over there? Business or pleasure. Now that's out there.

Tunis is a stop on a cruise out of Barcelona. Not far from there. Not business, hope pleasure.
