LEXINGTON - Alfonso Smith knows he can run the football and make big plays because of his speed.
The junior running also knows if he wants to play more for the Wildcats this season he has to be just as proficient at blocking and receiving as he is at running because Kentucky coach Rich Brooks wants a back who can be a viable pass-catching threat as well as an explosive runner.
"In the spring, I caught the ball well. I really worked hard on that and put emphasis on that," said Smith, a junior. "I am going to stay after practice and catch balls. I am going to make sure that catching the ball is not something that is a weakness.
"I am really going to work on blocking, too, because that is another weakness. I am going to work on everything. I don't want to leave anything to chance this year because if I get my opportunity to shine, I want to make sure I am ready."
