Hartline, Fidler, Cobb, Roark, Mason, Mossakowski and Newton in the fold. Most of these guys were top-rated qb's in h.s. I know Roark has been practicing at wr, and Cobb has been getting some work there, but it's looking more and more as if Cobb's position will be qb. I would imagine both Mossakowski and Newton plan on playing qb. Is anyone, other than myself, wondering what we're going to do with all these qb's?

Well, a lot depends on how Mike Hartline performs this year. He really holds the key to the whole wonderful "mess." Here's one guy's off the cuff opinion:

If Hartline performs well and solidly establishes himself as the #1 guy, then that means that in 2009 he will be a Junior and both Newton and Moss would likely redshirt. They would then both be redshirt freshman in 2010 while Hartline would be a senior. That would leave the survivor of the Newton / Moss competition three years to be the starter. And that would be WONDERFUL for all concerned -- Hartline, Newton / Moss and above all, UK.

This scenario would also likely see Cobb eventually moving full time to WR.

On the other hand, if Hartline fails to establish himself, then everything changes. If Cobb eventually takes over THIS year, and is able to hold the job, that would leave Newton / Moss only two years after Cobb leaves. Or, it could also mean that Newton / Moss do not redhsirt at all and compete with Moss, and perhaps even Hartline again, in 2009.

In short, if Hartline does NOT establish himself this year, then we will have a really, really interesting and confusing situation on our hands next year. But, if Hartline can play very well, then things become much more clear for the next 6 years.

I've been following UK fb for 53 years (since I was 10), and I can't remember us ever having a qb situation remotely resembling this before.

Don't forget Mason. He was one of the top-rated qb's in Tn. last year as well.

I can remember times under Curci when there were a number of QBs on the roster who were supposed to be really good, but they weren't when they got on the field. I'm going to wait until I see these guys play before declaring we're in great shape at QB.

It will all sort itself out.

Long time coming in my book. Finally we have an embarrassment of riches. Now if we can just get the other positions up to speed like this.

Don't forget about Brian Adams, another 2009 QB commit who is a 3 star out of Forsyth, GA. He is big and athletic.

This depth at QB is truly amazing. Most top flight programs have several highly recruited QB's and this just shows that we are set up to be at least competitive for quite a while. Definitely exciting.

Edited to add: Adams might project out to be a receiver as he is 6'4" and runs a 4.45 40 according to Scout. Anyway the key word is depth, depth, depth.

I could see Cobb and Mason moving to WR, Roark pretty much has already moved to WR, and I would bet that Fidler transfers.

WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too early. Get them both signed and on campus next summer. THEN the speculation can begin.

I know its just too fun to think about though isn't it?

The competition for the starting QB spot will be very healthy for the next few years!

What a problem to worry about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) Massakowski's coach has stated that the young man expects to redshirt to transition to a pro-set offense from a base shotgun.

2) Massakowski just MIGHT go to pro baseball.

3) Cobb is being touted by a group like ATHLON to be one of the top 10 'sleeper' players of the year...one of the best athletes in the SEC.
He could play anywhere he wants...CB, QB, WR

4) Roark at 6'6 could be a giant WR, TE, or any of the mid-size positions.
Just if he wants to play.
5) Hartline could develop into someone that just can't get beat out. A full
year of experience is invaluable in development. I ain't selling out on this kid...he's a player.

Unfortunately, we always have the following possiblity:
a five star athlete in high school turns into a 2 star in college.

time will tell

I really wouldn't be surprised. I almost expect it after hearing his interview last week.
