I was visiting my mother in the hospital in Somerset three weeks ago an about 20 Amish folks walked into the waiting room.

What was interesting was that the men sat on one side of the room, and the small children and women sat on the other.

More interesting than that was the fact that the men were all speaking English and the women appeared to be speaking Dutch. I'm assuming some of the women had just moved from Lancaster County?

I`d guess the birth boom is from moving to different areas. Most have moved from the Glasgow area because...plainly putting it...they bred themself`s out...After a few decades it gets to the point where marrying cousins is a norm...not good...

and Will, I worked with one amish man on a barn once and he`d bring his son with him. The little fellow was 5 and he`d sit on the wagon all day and seldom move about. I tried to talk to the kid one day and the man said he didn`t understand english yet, and that, no offense to me...they protected the children from the English as much as they could...
