I see where Marc Maggard has reported that we have added a new sg/sf for '08. It's a premium blog article right now, but it should be revealed soon. All I can read is that Maggard has seen the player and loved his game. Sounds good if correct. We really needed some added punch to help Jodie out.

Wow. Looks like a ***-star player with some pretty decent offers from big-time schools.

Very interesting to say the least.

I will have to think this over for a minute...............

What about Miller and Stewart for this year and scholarships for next year?

Maybe were starting a JV team again...........

From some reports I've read, this guy isn't JV material. Far from it. Sounds like he can help immediately.

I wanted Roburt Sallie badly because of his scoring ability. Thought losing him was a pretty big blow. This guy--if it turns out to be true--looks to be a replica of Sallie, and just as highly rated coming out of high school. Some pretty big-time reports on this kid, and he's reportedly a "late bloomer."

I'm not predicting he'll come in and start or anything like that, but I'm pleasantly surprised by what I've read about this player.

And no one should bellyache too much about this. First: none of us have seen this kid play. (In fact most don't even know his name, I'd guess.) And second, this team needs scoring in the absolute worst way. Forget 2009: THIS TEAM needs scoring, or it's going to be a long year. That's what this is about, I would think.

Walk-on or schollie?

If he's a scorer, :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:!

I'd have to assume, based on the kid's offers, he'll get a scholarship.

His name is Donald Williams and he supposedly turned down St. John's in hopes of going to Marquette, who lost interest at some point. At least that is what I read earlier.

Donald Williams, now being reported on TCP, is our newest Cat for the 08-09 season - Welcome to our newest Cat!!!!

Appaently, Gibbons really likes this kid and he "tore it up" during the spring and summer.

His name is Donald Williams and he is on a schollie. Supposed to be a good scorer and defender but not really a great shot. In the 17 and under Gibbons tournament many thought he was the best player on the floor and his team won the championship. Welcome aboard Mr. Williams.

I wander where this committ lands UK in the overall recruiting rankings for this year. Should be a pretty good year, recruiting wise imo.

My concern is that we now have one more scholarship available for 2008, are one over for 2009, and one remaining for 2010. What does BCG know that we don't?

You'd have to think Patterson will jump pro after this season.

That evens it out for '09. I've always thought they would sign two more, but now it looks like maybe it will just be one (likely Orton). That puts them one over assuming Patterson's the only departure (which is doubtful), and there are ways you can swing a scholarship "problem" that minor.

I'm not too worried because I think you have to be concerned about this year. Recruiting means nothing if you don't win, and I think this team needs a little more scoring firepower to win at a better clip than we did a season ago. Hopefully a player like Williams can give us that.

Sounds like a problem with posture.

The things I am reading and hearing say he's close to 6'4 than 6'7

Rivals has him at 6'4". Scout has him at 6'7".

Not sure I would believe either one, really. Rivals' Jerry Meyer admitted today on the main board they knew very little about Williams going into this season, but he's been impressive. Borderline four star player who can contribute right away.

Meyer also said they didn't factor Williams in at all for these past rankings because no one over there had seen him. So those heights may be outdated, who knows.

Someone on another board compared this situation to Gerald Fitch's. I think that's a good comparison. Yet Fitch had an extraordinary work ethic and nose for the ball; he separated himself because of his toughness. I'd be pleased if Donald Williams just came in and gave us a little bit here and there.

Why don't we just say 6'5 1/2".

“Kentucky’s got a great hidden gem,” Gibbons said. “He can play shooting guard or wing forward. He can shoot and he’s explosive to the basket.

Gibbons projected Williams, a 6-foot-5 guard, as a possible replacement for Joe Crawford and a player likely to compete with Jodie Meeks for playing time. “He’s an impact recruit,” Gibbons said. Williams averaged about 24 points in five games in Gibbons’ tournament.

When asked if he thought Williams could be effective at Kentucky’s level, Meyer said, “Oh, I think he can play. He’ll give them some depth in the backcourt.”

I know its Tipton but... (http://ukbasketball.bloginky.com/2008/08/27/uk-adds-hidden-gem/)

On Matt Jones site his coach, Forbes, said that he was 6'4" and was a dead-on lights out shooter. Coach Forbes went on and on about his ability beyond the arc and to get to the rim. Forbes also mentioned that Williams was told by the staff that he would redshirt this year.

This would be bizarre.

Unless the staff is really worried about Williams' strength or something like that, not sure why they would redshirt him. Color me skeptical.

nooooooo please no red shirt! I would love to see this guy dropping treys this year :icon_lol: I'm worried about our ppg this year :icon_confused:

But ! in BCG I trust.

* I think the scholly is wasted if he doesn't play this year.

Why would he redshirt? That makes no sense to me. There are plenty of 2009 players that are better than him. If he redshirts than I COMPLETELY disagree with this whole thing.

I have a hunch Williams is insurance in case Jodie goes down again.

If Jodie stays healthy (please God), Williams redshirts.

However, Forbes says he is now a Wildcat. His coach also says he is a big-time shooter even though some recruiting analysts don't feel that way.

"He is a big shooter. He can make shots from anywhere," Forbes said. "He's a great athlete, but he can flat out shoot the basketball. He might need to work on his ballhandling and he has trouble creating his own shots, but what he can do is shoot."

He sounds like a lot better player than "insurance," though.

You don't hear the recruiting guys rave this much about players who are meant to sit on the end of the bench in a suit. Plus, Kentucky's really not in any kind of situation where they can have the luxury of taking players on who aren't going to play right away.

We need scoring. Williams is reportedly a scorer. And...he's going to redshirt. Something doesn't make sense here.
