Montreal?

I may be taking my mother to a wedding in Montreal in late September. The festivities appear to be located near the downtown area, relatively close to hotels, restaurants, etc. Neither of us has ever visited the city. Any suggestions regarding hotels and/or sites?

My daughter lives about an hour's drive away from Montreal. She and her husband go there for day trips and once a year stay for the ice festival. Unless you get some ideas from WCN travelers, I'll ask for hers.

Montreal is one of those cities where I only stayed one night, but would love to return someday for a longer visit.

We barhopped up and down St. Catherine street, down close to the seaway, and that seemed to be where most of the modern bars/restaurants/shops were located. Can't help you with the historic "old" portions of the city - but I hear they're worth checking-out as well.

As discussed in several other recent threads, learn some common French phrases before you go.
