First women's basketball....now baseball. It must really suck to be a uk fan. How's the croquet team doing? Further proof that uk fans are at an all time low. You would trade every sport invented to have a top basketball and football program. You are fooling nobody. So let me get this straight, you DON'T care about football, but absolutely LOVE baseball? I've been saying for several months now that Barnhard is a much better AD than Jurich. Its not even close right now. The CJ can only blow smoke up so many butts. The numbers don't lie. UK is so much better off in overall sports programs than LilBro. Football is NEXT.

The reason I started this thread was to give props to Mitch Barnhart. All we've heard for years is Jurich this and Jurich that. How all UL sports are great. Horsehockey! They might have football on us RIGHT NOW. But every other sport at UK is in way better shape than at UL and we play in a much tougher conference in most sports. The elevation of all UK sports in the last three years in nothing short of miraculous and it won't be too long until "we will own this state" comes true. Read it knockknee and WEEP!!!!!!!!!

MB has proven that Jurich is his beeotch. But that is how it should be. We are not hampered like LilBro in being a commuter college. For that I must give Jurich some credit. He's put some lipstick on the pig.....but it is still a pig.

If you say it enough you may even convince yourself. Just like UofL fans want Tubby to stay at uk forever, the same applies with brainfart. We PRAY that he stays for as long as possible. Face it, the money makers are football and basketball. Not a single person on here could name two players on the baseball team without looking it up. Nobody cares. Hmmm, let's see here so far IU and UT have tried to lure Jurich away....what about barnyard??? Anyone???Anyone??? Helloooooo??? Didn't think so. Jurich popped uk fans right in the mouth with the hiring of Pitino. BIGGEST MOUTH IN THE HISTORY OF COLLEGE ATHLETICS. uk fans STILL aren't over it for crying out loud. I LOVE IT!!!This is why he is the best in the business, and why you guys will always be reaching for badminton and ice hockey. Deal with it kitties, barnyard WILL ALWAYS be in Juriches shadow....ALWAYS. And save the football crap. We have been hearing this for years. Save it. If he hasn't brought your program back from the dead by now, he never will. Eat our dust suckers.
But hey, you ALMOST had Spurrier and Parcells!!! PUUUUULEASE!!!BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! What a bunch of LOSERS!!!

I dont' have to look it up sucker. The name is Shelby and he will be a first round draft pick. Does your commuter school have a grad on the PGA tour winning in his rookie season and his father wearinghis college's teamhat on national television? Do you even have a golf program? What about our national championship diver? I'm sure you don't have swimming or an aquatics center. Like I said all you have on us right now is football! period. And that too will change. The best will be when UK volleyballmarches into Cardinal Arena and kicks your foreigners butts with Louisville girls. It's not too far off, my friend. Read it and delude yourself into thinking it won't. It makes it that much sweeter! April 5-Cliff Hagan Stadium-UL will get owned again by Big Brother!

Last year we were better in men's basketball, football, and baseball. We were also better in women's basketball, volleyball, and softball. The top three sports for each sex. You kicked our tails in men's golf,Wooppee!twist the facts any way you want to, but the above is the truth.
About time you made some progress. With all the money Mitch has to work with, you would be kind of disappointed if he didn't find out how to win at some sport or another. Let's hope his new hires have made this progress honestly.
If you all are happy with Mitch,Rich, and Tubby, good for you. I wouldn't trade Tom,Rick, or Bobby for any of them.

MB is enjoying some success in 2nd and 3rd tier sports but so far has failed miserably on those that actually bring in revenue. I'm not sure that Jurich is a guy that I'd want at UK but so far he's doing better than MB.

You beat me to the punch. He hasa selective memory. The results will be the same or better this season. Womens hoops beat #1 TN. Our baseball team is ranked and theirs is pathetic. Softball made it to #30 in the nation and the womens VB team rec'd an at large birth in the NCAA.
Their VB program has about 2 players from the US so I'm not sure if they are a Louisville team or a satellite club of the old Soviet Union.Their coach cheated to the point that they should have rec'd the death penalty. How he kept his job is beyond me. He makes Claude Basset look like a saint.
MB has made some terrific hires in the past 2 seasons and we are no doubt the better overall program...as we should be. They do nice however for a commuter college.
Hey, if Ivy Tech or RETS Electronics school is looking for an AD, Tom Jurich is pretty well qualified although that might be a lateral move for him.

An athletic directors job is to oversee the overall sports program at a university. Like I said in plain english, you have us in football. That's it! What part of that don't you understand Brassowfan? No koolaid here! MB has done a better job overall with all sports than Jurich. Our basketball team is not playing in the NIT right now, is it? And yes Knockknee I will be at the baseball game on April 5. It's not rocket science here folks. I know lower revenue sports don't matter to most folks, but for the sake of comparing theaccomplishments of two athletic directors, it does.

I went through this a couple of weeks ago and don't intend to rehash the discussion, if you like I'm sure you could do a search rather than to repeat everything that has been said.
In short, MB, IMO, has performed poorly in the two major sports that bring in revenue. He hides from the football fans and is basically non-existent when it comes to basketball. So far I believe both programs are performing worse than when he arrived and if he's going to take credit for baseball and snow-angel making then he also has to answer for the bad as well. What we have is a guy whose glad to raise the price of tickets but then hides from his customers, IMO, that alone is indicative of why he's a terrible AD. As for UL, I don't care for their program but compare it to when Jurich arrived and they're better not only in the poor sports but the football program continues to improve and the basketball is better, even if they still are in the NIT.

Don't lay the football mess on Barnhart, Brassow. That was created by CM Newton and Hal Mumme. He brought in Brooks, but who else wanted the job. As far as basketball, I don't see how going to the NCAA every year translates into a bad season or program. What does that say for Jurich and Pitino? Whatever! It is my opinion that Barnhart is the best thing to happen to UK athletics since Dan Issel and I'm entitled to it.:dude:

I don't fault him for the probation, that is on CM Newton and his "good ol' boy network" but I do fault him for allowing Morris to leave when he had nothing but a botched coaching selection process to follow. He had a chance to turn the program around, to bring life to a program that had tremendous support and instead he hired a relic who so far has done absolutely nothing. The result is that MB has to hide behind the stands while his coach stands out there to take the heat.
As for the basketball program... going to the NCAA isn't the standard that UK has set for itself and the fact that we barely made it this season speaks volumes as to where things stand.
It is your right to believe that he's the best thing since sliced bread but that in itself does not make it so, just as those such as myself have a different opinion altogether.
I'll just leave it at this and then we can agree to disagree. The football and basketball programs are the only revenue positive programs at UK. Should 2006-07 be a repeat of 2005-06 (which is very, very possible) then neither sport will be able to maintain fan support for the coaches of those programs... IMO, that says volumes about the overall state of the program.

Crum wasn't going to the NCAA tournament in the end. I give Jurich full credit for dealing with the situation that everyone from the outside could recognize, Crum had to go. Pitino may have his problems but he's putting behinds in the seats and fair or not there is some excitement about the program.
I also give Jurich credit for when that bastard of a football coach left that his search wasn't a cluster*&$@ and he ended up with someone who advanced the program.
I'm definitely not a Jurich fan but IMO he's far better than MB.

Looking at Mitch as a success based on baseball and other tier II sports is like Pitino saying that this year was successful because they had a high free throw percentage. It's nice and it is something to build on... but it's not the way success is measured.

Considering the shape that sports were in at UK (not including basketball) when Mitch took over, I think it isVERY fair to evaluate him on where they are now. My husband is a varsity letterman and I know the Track coach and believe me the so called lower tiered sports were so neglected and in such terrible shape only a few short years ago,to see how far they have come is, well , like I said before, nothing short ofmiraculous! I never said that they don't mean squat, just as free throws are an important part of the game of basketball, I'm just saying that when you're judging success it's the football and basketball programs that are at the forefront as they generate the revenue.
BTW, :blush:is for blushing...
I haven't re-read all the above threads so I don't know if this has or has not been said.
Baseball in the SEC is huge, and to have a baseball team that can compete in the SEC raises the overall level, perception, success of the entire athletic department in many ways. I'd say the higharchy in the SEC is Football, Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball and then everything else.
There are a lot of people who follow college baseball, particularily in the south. Gaining respect in each and everyone of the above sports, including baseball,is important and we are on the right track with this program.

I'm sure that there are those who follow baseball and it's great that UK is performing better but it's still a 2nd tier sport and cannot, nor should it, make or break an AD in todays college sports.
Again, I have nothing against any of these sports but this claim that MB is a "great" AD or even that he's the best in the state based on the results of non-revenue sports is just ridiculous. If you're part of or a fan of one of these sports I can appreciate the admiration for an AD who would focus on those however in this era AD's are judged on 1) the money that is brought into the program, 2) the quality of the football program, 3) the quality of the basketball program, 4) everything else.
So far MB has raised the price of admission for revenue sports and failed to make them his focus. IMO, he's failing at numbers 1, 2, & 3 and yet people are all jumping up and down because track is in its best shape in quite sometime. IMO, if football continues to fail, it's only a matter of time before the others are in trouble as well. Other AD's understand this.
