Help????
One of my daughters just started taking some more math classes, she works and is a Mom too and she is a bit frustrated right now. They gave her homework to do online but with no instructions on how to get certain math symbols to appear correctly. Her question to me was how she can type X to the power of 2. You know, the regular X with the little 2 up high and to the right of it. This will be on the school website so doing it in word is not going to work. Is there some set of codes etc that she can type and get it to display as she wishes? I found some codes for several symbols like this (÷) but nothing there to do what she wants. Can anyone help?
Thanks

X^2 usually works freethrow.
Also, parentheses never hurt. There ought to be some sort of instructions somewhere though. If not, she should ask the teacher/prof.

X^2 is acceptable, as Matt said.
You can try Alt + 0178 as well if you're using Windows.

Rose Hulman University has a "Homework Hotline" for math and science questions. I think it is from 6p-9p EST. They can be contacted at 1-877-ask-rose or www.askrose.org

This may be a little helpful to her for the year... When she is on the website that she is doing the homework on, let her know that if part of the questions have: EXAMPLE: x² (2nd power symbols), X³ (3rd power), ± plus/minus... or any other symbol that she doesn't know how to type, have her look in the questions and if she can find a symbol that she is needing to us and it's part of that question or another question, have her copy and paste that symbol... If she seems to be having problems with it... feel free to drop me a message on here and I'll give you my cell phone # and be more than happy to help her. I tutor some of my skate kids in junior high and high school.. My requirements are: Keep the grades above a C+ or you don't skate on the team... No exceptions. I've tutored "F" students that came up to "A's... Our kids are our future! Thanks for posting this FREETHROW!!!! It shows that we do have parents that actually care. I'm happy to see a post like this.:icon_mrgreen:

The TI-31 Scientific calculator (at around $10-12 at Office Max and other discount office stores) has the x, the ^, and the 2 key which satisfies.
Thanks for the Rose-Hulman site, UKSam!
