Those are remarkable images. What was your grandfather's role in the war?

He was a mechanic.
Worked on everything. Tanks. Trucks. Jeeps. Anything else they brought him.

Interesting.
On a related matter, I read a book which was published fairly recently, "First Into Nagasaki" by Anthony Weller. He was a reporter whose reporting got censored and his original copies of the stories he tried to file had been misplaced or thought to be lost for years. Apparently, one of the reasons for the censorship might have been his reporting that the blasts were not quite as destructive as we have been led to believe. I am surprised at some of the reports of people who survived the atomic blasts.

Very cool stuff.
My grandfather was in the infantry in WWII and went in about 3 weeks or so after D Day. I love picking his brain every time I get to see him.

A couple of pics that were in the photo album. Not sure that they are from the Philippines. But that was all that my Grandpa talked about. PI and Japan.

I just wanted to add something to this thread. Here is a scanned copy of the South Bend Tribune from VJ-Day. The original is in a family album downstairs.
