Just curious how it is in other areas. We have 10 gallon maxium per customer with one to two hour lines and a few stations have run out of regular unleaded. Gas prices currently are at $4.00. New Bern, NC (30 miles away) has stations at $6.00 and there are a few stations in Greensboro, NC reporting $8.00 per gallon  yikes

$3.89 here. $8 a gallon! Hurricane or not, that's price gouging. These idiots, from the oil companies down to the store owners will get their comeuppance.

Had a half a tank, but with making a trip to Lexington tomorrow and afraid of what might happen overnight, I topped off at 3.89 w. my Kroger card. Man oh man this is tough.

State of Emergency here in Kentucky. Price gouging already running rampant.
Still under 4.00 around my house, but it's not going to hold. It was 3.65 at the Swifty down the street around noon, and the line was almost a mile long.
I can't imagine 8.00 per gallon.

And that's all it is right now  Other's misfortunes turned into quick profits. Makes me mad. Still 4 here, but has risen 30 cents today. I'll walk before I pour 5/gal gas in my truck....8 bucks, the thing can sit and rust. That would be $200 to fill that thing up.

We do not have that great of a mass transit system. The US is so spread out, unlike Europe, where you can travel to just about any country and major city by train. If gas prices rise to $8 a gal, we will all pay and do less travelling and have less money for entertainment and luxury items.

Might as well take the nozzle and shove it up your a.. It might last longer.
We talked about raising the price of an X-Ray today. There might be a bus wreck or something.

It was 3.48 in Glasgow until about mid morning then it jumped 52 frickin cents...a few stations dropped back down to 3.78...it looked like the 80`s gas lines...
so to me that shows that with most stations at 3.99 and a few at 3.78 is proof of gouging...

The main route from Houston to Austin is Hwy 290, so there is definitely an opportunity for price gouging, considering evacuees who are coming here. However, the news featured a story on HWY 290 station owner Muhammed Ali, who is refusing to raise prices and holding it to 3.55 a gallon. There's at least some good out there.

$6 or $8 should be reported to the better business bureau. There are laws against price gouging.

I filled my tank yesterday at $3.44 and then topped it off during lunch today at $3.59 when everyone started talking about $5 gas by the end of the day around here.

That's not proof of gouging. That's more likely stations trying to stretch supply so they don't run out until next delivery - which will probably be later than expected with 20% of refineries temporarily out of commission..........
Went from 3.69 to 3.95 at krogers here in ashland.

4.09 and 4.17 in Fern Creek last night. News was reporting 4.67 in Paducah. A friend who lives in Somerset told me it was 4.85 at one station down there.
I'd say that's gouging.

Same issues here in Alabama. Prices were at $3.60/gal yesterday morning and jumped to $4.00/gal by the afternoon (if you could find any). There were several stations charging upwards of $4.80/gal for regular unleaded. Most of the major names like Shell, BP and Chevron are around $4.00/gal.
AL Governor issued a warning to those who are price gouging that they will be prosecuted. He urged citizens to get a receipt and call the State Attorney General's office. One guy called in on the Finebaum show and said that the AG's office told him to call his local Sheriff's Dept and they would go shut down a station that was charging $5.50 / gallon.
There's not really a gas shortage right now, but with the run that the public has made on the pumps yesterday there is no way that the gas companies can re-supply all the stations this weekend. This is going to create more panic when stations have signs that say they are out of gas.

This reminds me of the panic when the guy predicted the New Madrid earthquake and their was a run on items at stores.

Glad I filled up after work at Kroger for 3.89. Got there right at 5 and it was starting to get crowded. In fact, I got the last free pump. A short line starting when I left. Its a shame.

3.25- Tuesday
3.49 Last night
Prices will be high for two to three more weeks as the Houston area refineries spin back up. The main key is oil as the raw product is dropping by the day. On friday it was around 100 and even under 100 briefly. This is why we need more refineries and many of them spread out so one natural disaster doesn't affect the nation so much.

I have thought about buying a bicycle...but it's just not practical in a city. If I were living where I grew up, down in Souteast Kentucky, it'd be no problem. Here in Louisville you'd be dead in a week if you tried to get out in that Hummer fleet we call traffic.

Gov Fleycher did this same thing back on 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit..there were numerous gas stations that paid some big fines for gouging

Here at our station in Lexington gas only went up to $3.84 from $3.74. Frankly though, our station was gouging beforehand, because right down the road gas was $3.24 at Shell and $3.28 at Speedway.

***LOL*** I gave $2.29 a gallon last October in Corbin on the way back from the Mississippi St. game. Although I would like to see it at $3.24, I'm not impressed with it.

Yep. There is plenty of gas to last the whole country a 8 months without a drop of new stuff. This is pure and simple a case of supply and demand in your region. There is panic so everyone and there mother (who are the same people that buy out the stores of eggs and bread when there are reports of 2 inchs of snow) goes out and trys to buy as much gas as they can get their hands on. None of them realizing that if there is a price hick it will be short in duration maybe a couple few days then they will all be down again. Just drive less for a couple days or go outside of the city and get you gas you will save big money that way.

Most every station in town is $3.99 now. Our speedway went up from $3.84 to $3.99 last night around 6pm. So did the other two that were in the $3.20 range. Too bad those stations were only that low for 2 days, because they were actually adjusting for the drop in oil prices. Glad I filled up though.
