Heard he is overweight, out of shape, and needs to really decide if he still wants to play football.:? This was reported on Alan Cutler's show. Anyone else hear anything?

He is out of shape and UNDER weight. Question is NOT whether he wants play football, but whether he will put the time in to become a starter.
Cutler got it wrong, as usual.

Either way, its disappointing news.

Well, honestly I am the worst at quoting people. So it very well could have been me who got it wrong.

How in the hell can he be out of shape?
He played BBall all winter.
We have OL Micah Jones RS So.who is listed at 330 lbs this spring and we have LB/DE Micah Johnson who reportly weighsbetween 245 and 275 who has signed but will not be on campus until this summer.
I suspect Cutler was referring to Micah Jones but I don't really know since I wouldn't listen to him even if his was the only radio show that existed.
You guys need to get your Micahs straight. :nada:

It's nice to have the luxury of making players get in shape and work if they want to start. In other words, we have enough competition for starting spots that players just can't coast because there's a huge dropoff between 1st and 2nd string. It's not a luxury we've had very often.

Micah really impressed me with his attitude when he signed on. Hope this isn't true.

Well, if all this bad stuff comes to fruition, I guess we've got yet another case of a "can't miss" All American that - when he hits the big time and realizes he's no longer pancaking 165 pound defensive lineman - the attitude changes.
I had great hopes for this kid and I realize he's been injured. But so have a lot of other guys that overcame it and went on to greatness. This is disappointing.

Not being able to practice due to academics after a RS season is not a good sign IMO.

Brooks was quoted yesterday as saying that Micah JONES needs to decide if he want to put out the effort to play---something to this effect, not a quote. It sounded to me as if Brooks was pretty well fed up with him for coming in so out of shape and not ready to do his best. But I reckon he's got about 5 months to get right, maybe he will.

The silver lining in the Micah Jones saga is, three years ago our lack of depth would havepractically forced Brooks to play him regardless of his conditioning and attitude. He doesn't have to do that any more. Christian Johnson, Fatu Turi-turi, Trai Willams and others have seen to that.
Don't misconstrue what I'm saying, Jones has a lot of physical tools and I truly hope he getshis buttin gear and becomes a star. But, the fact that Brooks can tell him to 'poop or get off the pot' says a lot about the depth Brooks hasbuilt in three short years.

Exactly.
Micah Jones has been overrated from day one. Smaller guys from Danville lined up and knocked the snot out of him in the playoffs in high school. I knew then that if he believed his press clippings he would be in trouble. Here's hoping that he humbles himself and gets his act together.

Were you writing this when we were recruiting him? Thanks.

IIR, Micah Jones had a lot to do with getting some other recruiting targets to seriously consider UK and I think a couple that signed even mentioned Micah as being a factor. Before we throw him out with the trash we might ought to give him he benefit of the doubt.

Micah Johnson actively recruited other players (Corey Peters, for example) to UK after he'd committed. Micah Jones did not that I recall.
I hope no one gives up on Micah Jones at this point. Kids mature at different rates and the adjustment from Class A ball to SEC ball, being away from home for the first time, and so forth takes some getting used to. Some adjust better than others.
With respect to Micah Jones being overrated, I would remind that he had offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan and Tennessee among others. So if he was indeed overrated, he sure fooled a lot of damn successful collegiate coaches.

You are correct, though I'll admit I had to go back and search the archives to believe it. It's not that I had them confused, I know Jones is the older and Johnson the younger, but obviously that's the extent of what my memory could do for me.

Excellent post, Jim. Too, in regard to kids' maturing at different rates, there are articles today about John Logan's now being more mature and Tony Dixon's learning from his mistake of not paying enough attention to academics. Absolutely, let's notgive up on Micah Jones or any young player.
