good interview...mentions players speeds and how players are developing and recovering. Maurice Ginter is going to try Strong Safety.

Isn't 253 lbs. a little heavy for a safety?

Its a big dude at that position but its been done before. Grinter is an athlete from what I read and if it works out in that position, talk about an imtimating force coming down at you with a 10-15 yd headstart on his momentum!

By the way, I noticed the thread's secondary title says "Grinter moves to SS". Its experimental at this stage and probably 50/50 that Grinter either plays LB or SS.

Coached against Grinter from Youth to HS... He is a load... Stated in several threads that I would love to see him at LB.... SS is not a reach... he is big, strong, and fast.... wears the 250 well..... was really excited when we got him. I believe he is an immediate impact player. People are overlooking him.... big time talent...

I sure as heck wouldn't want to be a wide receiver coming across the middle and have to deal with a guy that big.

I expect Mo Grinter to finally settle in at LB. Running a 4.71 ain't all that fast for a Safety but at this time I don't know what his short shuttle speed is or how well he can backpedal so the jury is still out as far as him being a safety. His speed would be good at LB but it would be great as a Weakside Rush end. We'll just see how it all turns out as time goes on.

I'm excited to see a guy with that size at safety. Brings back memories of David Fulcher (Bengals) and Ken Swilling (early 90's Georgia Tech). Those dudes could flat-out knock the stuffing out of opponents.

ElijahCraig, I thought of Fulcher as well.

Grinter has spotted a position on the defense that probably will permit a young player some playing time. This coaching staff lets new players pick the position they want to play starting out. He is taking advantage of the numbers. Pretty smart. I suspect Goodson is drooling to get into practice. With McClinton rehabing a knee injury and Abdullah Mohammed moving on, there will be playing time at SS.

I suspect Grinter lands, however, at LBer or FB, but the competition at those positions is greater and still young. If he has the potential to get minutes at LBer this year, why not toy with the idea of moving Woodyard back to SS, the position he was recruited to play? Woodyard weighs about 210-220. Seems he would be ideal for SS. If Grinter and Johnson can make a dent in the LBer rotation, and Mabry and Williams have improved, perhaps Woodyard at SS lets the coaching staff get the most talent on the field at the same time.

Good thoughts CC. Although he has done a credible job, I've never been high on Wesley at lb'er. I'd much rather see him at safety.

Seems weird he'd be at SS & Woodyard at OLB given G is 30 lb heavier.

I could see him at SS in certain situations but the speed of the receivers in the SEC would, IMHO, would prohibit it, anymore than that.

The strong safety matches up with the tight end unless the offense inserts extra wideouts. I think Grinter can play there except maybe on obvious passing downs when there is no TE in the game.
