Haven't seen anything regarding Tyler Smith is a couple of weeks. Did he commit to someone else, are we still actively recruiting him?

Still actively recruiting him.

Heard a rumor yesterday that Pitt was the leader because Tyler's father has cancer and there are some good clinics near the Pittsburgh area.

Word from the Rivals site this morning, though, is that Tubby Smith had an in-home visit with Tyler last week. So it's still up in the air.

Will if that rumor is true I hope thats where he goes. Family has to come first. The fact that that might be his main consideration in choosing a school speaks volumes as to his charecter.

The Markey Cancer Center at UK has quite a strong rep also.

I am not downplaying the father's health as I have a close friend's father pass away just over a year ago to cancer (still wear the LiveStrong bracelet in his honor). But I am not sold on the rumours that Pitt is the leader because part of the reason is 'some good facilities for patients with cancer are nearby'. I think the arguement can be made that just about any state has a good, reputable cancer treatment facility.

I'd like to hear a better reason for choosing Pitt such as the father already having docters in Pittsburgh and wants to stay close. There is also the fact that he has stated he wanted to stay close to his family and Pittsburgh is further away I believe.

I won't be surprised if he ends up in Pitt, just not buying the reason for making Pitt the leader right now.

Lexington has some of the best hospitals in the country, including for cancer, so I don't buy that either. I think that sounds like some Pitt fans with some imagination searching for reasons he would go so far from home despite all the things he has stated about staying close to home.

I sure hope we get him.

I hope his Dad wins his fight with cancer... I have lost a sister-in-law to cancer a little over a year ago, have a brother-in-law fighting it, a neice fighting it and a cousins husband fighting it, it is a very hard disease to overcome, but it can be done. I wish Tyler and Mr. Smith the very best.

Also, keep in mind that Cincinnati is about an hour away from Lexington. If there are better medical facilities in the world than in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky - well, the medical profession isn't aware of it.

After hearing about his father, I hope he goes where ever it is that he can be close to him and his father can get the best care possible. If that isn't UK than so be it. There are bigger things in life than basketball, even if it isn't your own life. I would venture to say that pretty much everyone knows someone that has or had cancer (living or deceased) and understand how big a deal it is. I have an aunt fighting it right now and lost another aunt about a year or so ago to it.

Good luck to the entire Smith family. If only basketball could beat cancer.

I concur with this post totally. Basketball is way down the line when family is a concern. My prayers are with you Tyler and your dad.
