Hubby was told ten years ago that he needed this surgery, but the doctor said he was too young. He has put it off now too long and his knees are in terrible shape. We live in Bardstown but we will probably go to Louisville for a doctor....we just don't know who to go to.
Anybody had any experience with this type of surgery and doctors in this area????

Does he not trust his physician for a recommendation?

I can recommend the group that I've used for back surgery as well as shoulder and knee problems.

Louisville Orthopedic Clinic and Sports Rehabilitation Center (http://www.louisvilleorthopedic.com/)

Dr. Ernest Eggers and Richard Sweet are among two of their many specialists and FWIR are the most experienced. Most all have taught or still teach at UofL School of Medicine.

Good Luck!

Well, the doctor out here recommended Dr. Sewell, who practices here and he does not want to go to him, so we are looking for someone else. Dr. Sewell is who did his previous arthroscopic procedures and would not do the replacement. At the time he was 45 and the doctor said he was too young. It is now ten years later and his right leg is so bowed out that it looks like it may break in two; he still does not want to do the surgery but has reached the point that he needs to do something.....soon.

My mother in law had the procedure done in Lex., and it went quite well for her. When my wife gets home from work, I'll ask her the name of the dr. if you'd like.

If Lexington is an option, I strongly recommend
Friesen, Allen, Corbett & Burgess Psc

They did my knee, and my wife's hand.

We will probably not go to Lexington; Louisville would be more convenient, I guess.
I have read some good things today about Dr. Craig Roberts, who is associated with U. of L.; he is listed as specializing in knee reconstruction surgery. I guess he would be o.k., as long as he does not put any Loserville blood in him!:p

Dr. Norman Lewis? If so, he's also with Louisville Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation.

IIRC, they've got 3 or 4? knee specialists.

Dr. Eggers did my Mom's hip replacement some years ago when she was 73, and she did great. Last year Dr. Sweet put her ankle back together after she fell at home and dislocated it and had fractured it in 3 places. She never even needed any painkiller after the surgery.
I would have confidence in any of the doctors in their practice.

Ellis, Badenhausen, & associates, are the team doctors for UL Basketball. Dr John Ellis is an exceptional surgeon and he will be doing my knees when the time comes. They have offices downtown, in PRP, and in J-Town.

Dr. Ellis has been recommended to us previously. I am leaning that direction; even though he is affiliated with the enemy.:icon_twisted:

Well, I was going to say if Lex was an option, I recommend Kooros Sajadi, or his son Kaveh at St. Joe. They have been taking care of my knee since I was 14 and they have done a great job thus far. http://www.kyboneandjoint.com/

Dr. Rudy Ellis took care of my back when I was a youngun'. Then Dr. Badenhausen took care of my Dad's broken leg way back when.

(I think there's a trend here...my family isn't very sound...)

When I was officiating and playing softball, Dr Rudy was the Man! He took care of all players for Jiffy Club (amatuer softball) and the Kentucky Bourbons (Pro Softball.) He told me one time that Wes Unseld and Bill Gatti were the biggest sissies he every treated. :icon_biggrin: Both, UL players. :shrug1:

We have decided on Dr. Craig Roberts; he is a partner with Dr. David Seligson; they are both professors of Orthopaedic surgery at U. of L.; Dr. Seligson specializing in trauma fractures and Dr. Roberts specializing in knee reconstruction and joint replacement. They just sounded like a good option to us; we actually got an appointment for Monday, Sept. 29th; hard to believe; but we will know his prognosis very soon.
Wish us luck!

I do wish you all the very best. Now that you've settled on a Dr., may he give you his very best.

Good luck! Can tell you that both have a great reputation at the med center and Seligson had all of us med students scared of him. My only interaction with him was when he yelled at me for talking in his OR while I was on an anesthesia rotation... not my favorite med school memory.

I have heard good things about a young surgeon in Leitchfiled named Dr. Ted Rogers.

Well..............we saw Dr. Schaper today, with Ellis and Badenhausen Assoc.; and the surgery is scheduled for December 1, 2008. I was impressed with the Doc and their staff.........wish us luck....pray for a quick recovery. It is going to be a tough time for us.....his auto body repair business is really slow now anyway with the economy the way it is.....and, as it turns out, it looks like I am going to be layed off as well.
Hopefully, we will get through this winter o.k, and be better off for it after a successful recovery!!!

I will be praying. When it's time for rehab, let me know and I'll tell you some funny stuff on Tom and Ed. They head up the rehab department.
