I know we're all angry and frustrated about today's loss, but this is a reminder to keep the discussion civil. Name-calling or dogging individual players and coaches won't be tolerated, and some of you are pushing the limit. Any questions, respond via PM rather than in this thread.

I agree! I was hotheaded after the game and although I didn't bust anyones chops, I still feel bad for throwing Hartline to the wolves....
Over and done with, on to next week!

Some of the stuff being said this week by folks is WAY out of line. If you have nothing civil nor constructive, keep it to yourself. If it were up to me, I would be passing out temporary vacations to some folks.

My positive...2 losses. Lots of games left. Maybe not all as winnable as yesterday (and it was Spurrier) but the season is not lost. I'm much more worried about Lyons' injury than the loss yesterday. Don't usually read the paper after a loss. Might have to to check on him.

OK...here's a question.
With the obvious issues of the offensive line would Hartline have better opportunites passing out of the shotgun? It would give him a bit more time to do his reads. I don't see that it would hurt....I know that the shotgun is the definite pass first signal, but since the running game isn't much anyway.....:shrug1::icon_question::icon_question:: icon_question::icon_question::icon_question:

It's been suggested that I clarify the types of dissenting discussion we want here, versus what's considered unacceptable or dogging individual players and coaches. Let me try by providing some examples:
What we want
I'm really disappointed with Hartline's play because...
I think Cobb should be starting because...
I would have gone for the first down rather than try the field goal because...
Seiber's been struggling all year and I would sit him and play Tydlacka because...
The defense did a lousy job of getting off the field on third down. I think we should have...
Unacceptable personal attacks
Hartline sucks.
Brooks is stupid for not starting Cobb.
Another bonehead call on the field goal by the head coach.
Send Seiber back to Tennessee.
Brown wouldn't know how to call a blitz if it bit him on the butt.
See the difference? One generates discussion, pro and con. The other simply editorializes in a degrading manner. No one here wants to censor discussion. But there's a right way and a wrong way to make your point. Discuss, dissent, and argue until the cows come home. But don't make personal attacks.

The "no huddle" seemed to work pretty well also, didn't it? I wonder why UK doesn't use it more.

I still cannot believe there is no better way to attack the opponent than with passes that almost always are "BEHIND EITHER THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE OR THE FIRST DOWN MARKERS !" hell if they are going to ATTEMPT a pass at least give it a 50 /50 chance of achieving a first down with the act of completion . Not that I , after watchin our guy throwin is givin the guys a 50/50 chance at catchin em........... we possibly need more cirque de solie recievers..............;)
Really.......................all jokes aside we need to at least attempt to throw downfield to loosen up the defense ,hell theres no difference than a run or a pass that is behind the line of scrimmage in regards of # of defensive people to cover :shrug1:

Nothing bothers me more than to have my opinion given to me. If someone is displeased with a player or coach I think they should be able to say so. Of course I mean within reason. I am not satisfied with some things about our offense. I did name some names. Controlling what peple say wont fix the football team. This type of protective thinking is why we are and always will be mediocore. Teams that address problems and correct them are the teams that win championships. Saying Hartline is not doing a good job isnt running him down as a person. Hes young and will probably improve. At this point in time hes not getting the job done. Ban me if you want to. Im only telling the truth.

I think you are missing the point. Everyone is here to give their opinion. That's the purpose of a forum. What those running this forum are enforcing is the decorum. They just want discussion to be encouraged in a civilized manner, they are not restricting anyone from giving their opinion, just phrase it in such a way as it is constructive, not destructive.

If you'll go back and carefully read what jwade has deemed as acceptable and unacceptable, I think you'll see he's not trying to squelch criticism, it just needs to be done in a civil manner.

I didn't mean to be redundant. I was typing my post while pjquirk's was being posted.
Honestly, this is the main reason this board has went down hill especially when your posts are rendered to make it seem less dirty. I think that if you have something to say as long as it's not profain or life threatening then go for it. There are too many 'blue bloods' on this board who think that everything the program does is right. Well, it's not. "Well, we're Kentucky we don't need to act like other schools," Yeah when we're losing someone needs to light the fire under someone's behind instead of patting them on the back and giving them the moral victory.
Anyhow, we should've been blown out this game easily. And maybe the Bama game too. But who knows what could've, should've and would've, didn't happen. Onto to a better tomorrow I guess. But some changes are need to be made. And I don't think I'll attend another game the rest of the year.

I think that you should go back to jwade's post and read it more carefully.
You have 75 posts and have just been a member since April 20 of this year, so I am not certain if you're qualified to say that WCN has "gone downhill."
Nobody is saying that we should whitewash what happened yesterday- just do it with class and civility.

You guys have way too much time on your hands.
Why don't you do something to really help this board and take away the ingnore button? That would reduce the cliqueishness that obviously exists on here. I don't understand why anyone would ever want to use it on a message board. That has never made seese to me.
This is a message board. Opinions are to be shared and freely expressed, if you don't like the way someone says something or what they say, take them to task right out here in the open. I really don't even like the PM thing either.
Censorship is never a good solution. The members here can police themselves, but censorship only makes things less intresting. I really can't believe I am sitting here writing this.

Look, NO ONE has even suggested imposing censorship on this board. This is a PRO-UK sports message board. There are VERY SIMPLE rules and guidelines here to help promote discussion without censorship. It's not difficult to understand. Issues with the ignore button, pm's, etc. have nothing to do with jwade's post. If you have a problem with it, take it up with the staff rather than posting here in an attempt to start some sort of revolt, lol.
All jwade is saying is to keep discussions civil. You can express any viewpoint in a civil manner...in fact, it ought to be easy.
I don't understand why so many are getting their feathers ruffled in this thread.

I think I was very civil in expressing my opinion of diaspproval of the sentiment of this post. I have no problem taking someone to task, using civility and a good command of the English language, that is not being civil and I certainly try to be civil and impersonal.
Also, I haven't seen anyone on here trying to start a "revolt" and that is an absurd take on things.
BTW, I am glad to see that you posted that right out here in the open and not on PM.;)

Orton just committed. There, that ought to make us all feel better right now! WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :widcat:
That seriously did.... If I had Rupp Arena chanting my name I'd challenge Carter to a fight. Wait, I'd probably do that now with a few shots of Jim Beam in me. Alright, if I had Rupp Arena chanting my name I'd challenge Micah Johnson to a fight. How bout that?
I think instead of wasting much energy and money on the football team I'm just going to focus on basketball. Student ticket time ! ! !

Any UK fan reading your dysfunctional remarks WILL be appalled and chose not to associate with your mindset. I hope your child or someone you love someday plays some organized sport...maybe even Div 1 football at Kentucky....and hear you spew your discontent! Then and only then will you realize what you are and attempt to change. These football athletes that chose to play for UK....make daily sacrifices and deserve our support and admiration....win or lose....If you can't say GO CATS after any loss and look forward to the next game with confidence and patience for this team to continue to develop....then cease to call yourself a fan and call yourself what you are.....a mean and hostile human being! You now are no different to me than a Tennessee fan. I invite you to go where you belong with Tennessee.... there you can moan about Fulmer and the Vols football demise. You mean fans are not winners even when the football team wins so don't join us celebrating anymore wins...thank you!... You have lost my respect and any other true UK fan's respect when we lose.....you achieve this by your thoughts and words. By the way, the UK basketball fans are giving counseling sessions for dysfunctional football fans....we teach you respect, class and admiration....maybe even love....for the University of Kentucky athletes! Call for a session.....first one November 1, 2008....Rupp Arena 4PM! GO CATS!!!!!
PS....Hope ya know the words to Rocky Top!

This is the best UK board period. And the reason, we have great administrators, and moderators that handle things quickly and fairly. Once you've been around here for awhile, you'll catch on.
