Kentucky Quarterback Mike Hartline
On Kentucky 's offensive performance ...
"First, you have give South Carolina credit. They did a great job offensively. It is touch because we have a lot of young guys and Dicky Lyons Jr. went down which was hard to bounce back from. The good thing is that we are still 4-2. We need to move on from this and the younger guys can use this as experience. There were a lot of opportunities to make catches that we didn't and there were a lot of opportunities that I need to make passes and I didn't. It's tough because we never established momentum on offense. Personally, I hate to have the defense bail us out the whole time and that's what they've been doing all season. They've been playing championship defense and they were tired because they were out there a lot today. We have to help them out and find some sort of momentum on offense for next week."
On his performance ...
"I needed to make a lot better passes than I did whether I missed a guy or made it harder for the receiver to catch the ball. I need to make it easy for those guys to catch the ball because it's my job."
Kentucky Head Coach Rich Brooks
We need other guys to step up and make some plays. Randall Cobb did some nice things, although he is not 100-percent and you can clearly see that.
On the play of quarterback Mike Hartline ...
"I think he could have made some throws he didn't make. We didn't win, so I would say we didn't coach well enough and we didn't play well enough."
On the offensive line production ...
"Our protection has been pretty good overall. One thing Mike (Hartline) does a good job of in the pocket is understanding when pressure is coming and not taking a lot of negative plays and sacks. We got the running game going for a while and then in the second half we couldn't get it going, which is not good enough, and we had to go back to throwing it. This game came down to them converting their third down chances and we didn't. They had some third and long and ours were third and medium and they got it done and we didn't."
Kentucky Wide Receiver Dicky Lyons, Jr.
On his MCL knee injury ...
"It is just one of those things that happens. One play you are doing just fine and the next something bad happens. My knee doesn't hurt nearly as bad as this loss though. We need to have a better season and its one of those things that we just can't let slip away. There were so many missed opportunities we were just not capitalizing on. We just have to go out on the field in practice next week and get ready for the next game."
On being out of the game the second half ...
"We have to bounce back. I never knew how bad I wanted to play until that second half when I couldn't go out there on the field today. I really wanted to get out there and help my team win. I was saying to the guys, `Yeah, we lost, but we're still playing.' And we did lose, but we are still playing and we can still play really good football and that's what I am hoping they do."
On what the offense needs to do without Dicky Lyons ...
" It just seems like every time we start to get something done, something bad happens. We just had little mistakes and missed assignments. Basically, we just have to get everybody on the same page."
On when his thoughts about when he got injured ...
" I turned around and I saw the pile on and I saw I was headed for the pile on. And then all of the sudden I went down and then my knee just went out from under me. I heard something pop and I tried to get up and I could get up and walk on it, but it was just really sore. I'm just hoping for the best so I can get out there and help this team win."
On what the doctor's had to say ...
"It's hard to do an exam without an MRI to see if anything is torn. He kept asking me if it hurt or anything and I just kept telling him that I couldn't feel anything right now. But, I'm a pretty tough guy and either way I am going to rehab and do what I have to do to get back on the field as soon as possible."
