In each week's Gameday Info thread in the Football Forum, one of the posts that I include is a post titled, "This Date in UK Football History". I identify a game in the past that happened on the same date as this week's game is played on and include some information about the season in which that game was played.

I thought since it was a taste of UK History, I would try and remember to also post the post in the UKHistory Forum for folks to discuss, if they like.

This week's post follows this post. :D

UK defeated Mississippi, 21-14, in the first home game of the 1955 season. The victory followed an opening season loss to LSU in Baton Rouge. Cats of note for that team were quarterback Bob Hardy, Howard Schnellenberger and Delmar Hughes. The Cats forged a 6-3-1 record for Coach Blanton Collier in 1955.

An interesting side-note to the season involved the UK-Tennessee series. The 1955 group of UK seniors never lost to the Vols. UK beat Tennessee 27-21 in 1953, 14-13 in 1954 and 23-0 in 1955. This group may be the only class at UK that went undefeated against the Vols.

The Cats lone tie came against Auburn in a game in Birmingham, Alabama.
