That would require the price of crude to return to $145. It's roughly 3 to 3.5% of the overall price of crude that determines the price at the pump. Right now at my station gas is $1.91.

Yup.
The last time gas was even 7% of crude prices was in `98-`99 when oil was $12-$17 per barrel.

I paid $1.97. It just goes to show you how crooked the oil futures are. The oil companies have raped the consumers and have collected windfall profits.

Oil companies, oil producers and futures traders all three different, separate things.
Oil buyers (you and I) set price with rare exception (futures trading the recent example). Oil companies certainly don't set the price, however.
Oil companies haven't had control on price setting for a number of decades.

I got 93 octane for the same in South Carolina. It's available for even less at my local--Beltsville, MD--Costco, but waiting for up to 30 minutes in line isn't worth the buck or two saved (my little roadster only takes 11 gallons or so). Some local stations have it for around $2.00 now.
