This is actually the first year in a good long time that UK hasn't been ranked preseason.
I will say that I think that UK should have been in the top 25 but I could see why they wouldn't be. It really doesn't bother me either way since preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing if they did UL and UT would have been in the past four final fours and we all know that isn't what happened.

i understand why we aren't ranked in the pre-season poll, so i'm not to concerned right now. but i'm pretty darn sure that we will find our way into the top 25 this season.

Let me see. Would I rather:
A) Be ranked in the top 3 by all the major journalists, sports casters, and coaches polls
or
B) Be totally unranked and go on every web site begging people to go vote on ESPN's fan poll just to see my team's name ranked somewhere.
Tough choice.

How about C) Play real games to actually earn the ranking you receive.
Preseason ranking exist only to provide the talking heads with something to prattle on about. Its the equivalent of asking someone this time last year who the next president will be.
Hey I have an idea. Everybody in the preseason top 25 gets a free Ron Paul '08 bumper sticker.

Who wouldn't rather be ranked? But in reality it has no baring on the outcome of the season. UL was ranked what top eight a couple years ago in football and we all know how that worked out. The reason being that pre season rankings are based almost solely on potiential if you don't have all your players back from the season before.
UL lost a couple pretty major parts and are replacing them with freshmen which may or may not pan out to immediate help. If they do pan out ALL SEASON then they will be a top ten team and a final four threat if they don't then they could be out of the top twenty five all together.
UNC has most of their players back so I can see why they are ranked so high they deserve to be.
UT loses probably the biggest piece to their team the one guy that performed on a regular basis and add a Junior college point guard that is more worried about rapping than passing and have a couple of pre season injuries so they could go down the crapper in a hurry.
UK is right were they deserve to be ranked if you go on last years performance. They are similar to UL in the fact that they are going to be relying on a lot of young players to play big minutes. The difference being that UL has a little more proven talent and a couple of highly rated freshman. But, if Galloway, Liggins, Harrelson, and Miller pan out all season UK could make some noise in the tournament. Final Four? NO but they could easily see a elite eight or sweet sixteen.

A) Be ranked in the top 3 by all the major journalists, sports casters, and coaches polls With which a U of L fan can go to McDonald's, pay $6.00, and get an extra value meal
or
B) Be a U of L fan, whine and complain because our AD didn't have enough clout to keep our game wth UK from being moved to the third game, and then whine an complain some more because we were ranked in the top ten until we choked in Commonwealth Stadium and caused our season to go into a tailspin, losing in football to big name basketball schools UConn and Syracuse, and then insist that UK's victory wasn't that big of a deal because we knew along that our team stunk and we knew it (Never mind that we spent the entire preseason trumpeting an upcoming undefeated season and a national championship run, and don't remind us of it because we'll just act like "somebody else said that, not me") and insist that next season when the game is first game of the season, things will be different, only to
c) Get to the following season and prepare for the first game in our Pizza Pit against UK, only to watch one of UK's lineman outgain our entire starting backfield on one play, and on the same play, score all the points UK would need for victory, but along the way realize that Brian Brohm wasn't running out of the tunnel this season and watch as our offense showed the greatest display of ineptitude in the series by not managing to score ANY POINTS WHATSOEVER, as UK pounds our Cards into submission yet again, and then a couple of weeks later, watch as
d) Western Kentucky come into Commonwealth Stadium and despite showing an almost equal amount of ineptitude, manage to put together an opening drive good enough for a field goal, which by virtue of doing so, put MORE POINTS ON THE BOARD THAN U of L did against UK, and then, finally
e) Spend more time (by our own admission several times) on a UK smack board than our own fan boards, but say virtually nothing for weeks and then when an SEC opponent manages to do what we hope and prayed we could do (but DIDNT!), we wait for one of UK's opponents to jump on and start talking trash and we join in with that person as if our team in fact had done something..and then have the gall to get upset when a UK fan calls us on it.
If you look up the word "LAME" in Wester's dictionary, you will find a picture of a Cardinal fan beside it. Because that's what all these pitiful smack attempts are: LAME! http://www.funutilities.com/files/smileys/07/05/148.giff?id=9807 (http://www.crawlersmileys.com/?d=1&sm=Bad%20idea%3A9807&)

Okay, if that's the way you want it:
A) My response dealt with rankings, just as your post I responded to did. Your bunch is the one that's all the time making a big deal out of pre-season rankings and media hype. I was pointing out how up until and including last year, all we heard was how the Cardinals was the most powerful team since football was invented, they were predicting undefeated seasons, a BCS championship run, and blah, blah, blah. It's not my fault your team can't deliver. So, no, I didn't switch the subject (as if you Cards fans never do it..)
B) I'm sure you've noticed that I don't post here nearly as much as I used to. I did so for the specific reason that I was getting burned out on the smack stuff and I consider a lot of it redundant and silly, and I couldn't see the humor in it. I knew if I posted with that attitude, I would just ruin it for everyone else, so I intentionally keep my posts to a minimum. (I might also point out that I am always one of the first to post a congratulatory thread to the Cards for bowl victories and when credit is due, and when a Cardinal player is injured..I check on their well-being.)
C) That line has been used ad nauseum by both sides. We no more consider beating the Cards a bleetin' championship game than you guys do when you beat the 'Cats. Isn't it about time we gave that one a rest? Geez..:icon_rolleyes:
Oh, and for the record, I used bold type just to differentiate between your comments and mine, and to get your attention. That's all. I wasn't boiling mad, angry, ticked off, peeved, put out, or anything else.
There. That condensed enough for you? LOL! :icon_mrgreen:;)

You act like it is no big deal when a team wins a rivalry game. Call it a championship or whatever.
I'm sure that you could care less if ul wins a rivalry game. As long as you make a poll somewhere.
