View Full Version : First Injury
Wow! Our first serious injury of the season comes before they even put on the pads. Jarrell Williams, soph CB suffered a dislocated shoulder and is probably out for the spring and possibly even the season---extent really not known yet. He doesn't appear to be one of our top people at the position, but DB's seem to be one of our thinnest positions still. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this is not the beginning of another seige of injuries like we had last year.

Thanks, justacatsfan. Too, will there still be an MRI? I would think so, although I don't know, of course.

Usually it depends on the severity of the shoulder, some can go through the pain, he will definetly have to wear a brace from now on. Others will need surgery. If he does have the surgery, he would probably be back for the fall training camp.

I remember at the Music City Bowl, our tight end, James Whalen, went flying through the air and came down hard on that left shoulder. He was in such pain that he lay on the field screaming so that you could hear him up in the stands above the crowd noise. His shoulder was so out of kilter that he fearedhis arm had been torn off.
But I saw him and talked to him afew hours later and they had Whalen all slinged and taped and he was feeling little or no pain at the time---of course he couldn't move his arm with all the strapping. And too I don't know what kind of pain killing meds he was on---however one of his buddies was staying close at all times.
Once a shoulder is severly pulled out, it never ever gets back as strong as it was originally. But lots of phys therapy (if not surgery) can build the muslces strong enough to help keep it in. But James was playing in the NFL for a while afterward I believe. So his shoulder must have gotten pretty strong and solid.
I sure did enjoy his play. Some games it just seemed that he rambled out into the middle just behing the LBs and was open all the time. Tamme can be as good or better, but hasn't yet shown signs of it. But then James was an All-American. That's hard to be as good as.
I believe James Whalen's injury was a dislocated elbow. I remember the big screen replays of the injury at the game. It was sickening. The crowd nor the team seemed to recover the remainder of the game.
