Stoney Fork

Well at long last I have added to my website. Some of you MAY remember I had started a project about five years ago covering the 1940’s. To be honest I had thought that I would have it finished by now or at the very least, be much further along than I am. But, other things conspired against me, basically some bizarre health issues that began over 20 years ago and have never been diagnosed. Strangely, during the last few months after moving to Virginia and getting off of about 50 pounds of medication (Yes, I’m exaggerating!) some of this has cleared up, but not everything.
This latest addition covers the 1940-41 season. I still have some odds and ends to finish, but basically it is complete as far as the writing goes. In the pieces covering the other years, I have had a nostalgia page to give a sense of what was happening in the world at the time. That part is still not ready yet. Some of the images that I have used are not of the best quality. They are scans of copies from microfilm and a few are a bit poor, but I decided to use them since some I don’t believe have been published anywhere except in the newspapers they were scanned from…..at least not widely. Plus if you’ve ever searched for photos from this period, you know they can be pretty difficult to find. Jon Scott has been kind enough to allow me to link back to his site and I greatly appreciate that. I still have some of that to finish in the next few days. I became acquainted with Jon "back in the days"; I doubt there ever would have been a Stoney Fork Page without his site.
I don’t know what the future holds for my site or even if it has a future. While I am still interested in doing this, the inescapable fact is that what I have on my site can be found elsewhere on the Internet and is done in a much better manner than I can. When I put the site on the Internet I was doing it mainly out of curiosity; basically I wanted to see what was involved in putting a site on the web, I never intended to keep it going. Even the title was a bit of a joke; since it wasn't going to stay, I just put something different up there. (Those who don't know, Stoney Fork, is a community in Bell County and yes that is where I grew up.)BUT, I got e-mails expressing some interest and here we are today. One has only to think back 12 years or so, the Internet was just beginning to explode and while there were sites covering UK basketball, they certainly were no where near the extent they are today.
I am just not sure there is enough interest in what I am doing to make it worth the time and effort. Since moving I no longer have the Purdue University Library system to use as a resource for borrowing materials, so I’m not sure how readily available another source will be here. I just have a lot of issues to look at, but for my site, it basically boils down to quantity and quality and I’m just not sure it’s there.
In the meantime, if anyone is interested there are links below.
