I am in the process of planning a trip to Vegas and I am undecided about which hotel I should stay in. I have never been but I do know that I want to stay on the Strip. I definitely want to do some shopping, take in some of the nightlife and see a show while I am there.
Anyone have any suggestions??? :shrug1:

Two opposite schools of thought on Vegas hotels, and they are exactly the same logic as a cruise ship cabin.
1. There is so much to do, you should spend as little time in your room as possible. Get a discounted room at one of the nice, but not elegant, hotels and spend your money doing other things.
2. There is no substitute for comfort. Get the nicest room you can afford with as many amenities as possible. (One of the amenities is that your concierge can usually get you show tix otherwise sold out)
I fall into the latter category, but in fairness that's easy for me to say becasue I was a Platinum level member at Marriott for so many years that I was used to living like that in hotels.
If you have some advance time to plan, go online and see what hotels are offering specials for the period you're going to be there and maybe consult a travel agent as well. If you can give us a list of what hotels yu have to choose from, I'm sure someone here can give you further advice.
Enjoy!

I spoke to a travel agent with AAA and the list of hotels that he suggested were Excalibur, MGM, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, Imperial Palace and Hard Rock.

You might also want to check out tripadvisor.com. Sometimes their hotel reviews are helpful to me, sometimes not. Worth a glance, though. My husband and I stayed at the Mirage when we went, and that was located close to what I wanted to do, which was to shop, or at least look. Next time was by myself for conference at the Venetian. I didn't want to pay their prices and stayed at the Hilton resort a little further away. Better prices, but not a good choice for me, as it was isolated/far away from anything I was interested in.

We were there about a month ago and stayed at a time share down the strip at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Warm Springs Road. We went in several and had mixed thoughts. Given the list your travel agent gave you, I would go with Mandalay Bay and not give a second thought to the others.

I'd go with Mandalay Bay out of those. It is at the far end of the strip but you can get around. Excalibur is a bit farther down the strip but not that much, and it's . . . I liked it OK but it's a bit dated or aged, not so gracefully. Not dirty, just . . . kind of reminded me of the way the Galt House in Louisville used to be.

I've stayed at the Imperial Palace several times. It is okay. Not the nicest, but not the worst. I've also stayed at the Flamingo. Love the pool. From the list above I would go for Mandalay Bay or the Monte Carlo. I recommend going to the Rio for an evening, very good party atmosphere. Of course a trip downtown is always nice. I actually like downtown better than the strip.

Got a decent deal at a newer hotel, the Palazzo, attached to the Venetian, for $119 for a luxury suite. Wow, this place is awesome, right across from Treasure Island, next to Wynn, just a great location.

The one and only time I ever went to Vegas I stayed at the Venetian. Very nice place, worth every penny. I think their cheapest rooms are about $119. Although from that list, I would go with Mandalay Bay. Appeared to be a nice hotel when we stopped in for a bit.

My wife and I visit Vegas a couple time a year, so may I offer some advice??
Look at the Mirage, has a great location, fantastic pool and offers a very nice room for the money.
It is close to all the major casinos, Wynn, Venetian, Caesars, Harrah's, Flamingo and TI. For shopping the Fashion Shop Mall and Caesars Forum Shoppes are virtually bext door.
Restaurants in any price range are all over the place and the best shows on the strip are within a very easy walk.
If it is your first time, I do not think you will go wrong staying at the Mirage.
I can give you a lot of other tips, but I do not wish to go overboard on this one posting.

I am flying out tomorrow for business to Vegas. Any suggestions on where to eat? Or suggestions on where to catch the super bowl?

Obviously this is too late to offer suggestions for the Super Bowl but as for food, almost any hotel on the strip has a variety of places, all of which are good. I would suggest going to see the fountains and then grab dinner at Paris across the street. The food is good and you can see the fountain show every 15 minutes.

I agree Mandalay Bay is a great choice.

The Palazzo is one of the newer & better hotels on the strip. Their rooms are suites that have a sunken living room, multiple flat screens and just incredible service. Business is slow in Vegas right now and I'm getting emails almost constantly for rooms in the $100 - $120 range.

If you're spending that much time in your room, no matter how nice it is, you're doing Vegas wrong. lol
