View Full Version : Anybody still burn incense?
Looking for a good resource for incense sticks. I was in a record store in Vincennes and bought several this past weekend. Hadn't burned any since my (much) younger days. The product I bought was just too strong and honestly didn't smell as good here as as it did in the store (one smelled like a wet dog).

There are plenty of places to buy it in Boulder but I don't burn it anymore...I was never very big on it to begin with and I'm not a perfume guy either. It always amazed me that people would smell incense and think it was the good herb ;)

I burn insensce every day, ha.
But then again i live in boulder, and like Terry said, there is alot of it in Boulder.
It helps me relax.
And to the original poster, I would look to see if any churches in your area are selling it.
Then again that may just be a Boulder thing.....

My wife burns it sometimes. She usually buys it at the mall in one those stands that is setup outside of the stores. Patchulli (SP?) is my favorite.

I burn some at times, in a variety of scents...whatever you buy/burn, you need to be mindful of the ingredients as some have been shown to contain carcinogens.

Really! I never knew that. I guess our neighbors probably think we are druggies. :icon_mrgreen:
The wife has a bottle of patchouli oil - intoxicating scent. I wonder if that's the same stuff.

That was a long, long time ago so I think you are safe from assumptions now ;)

"It always amazed me that people would smell incense and think it was the good herb."
That's because of all the folks who burned incense to cover up the smell of the herb they were smoking. Visitors knew those folks had been smoking herb and got the smells confused.

Ah, patchouli oil. I used to put a little of it on in the 60's, just to fit in. :icon_biggrin: Back then, especially on the west coast, half the people I knew used it.
And I used to burn incense made by the Hare Krishnas--it was good, high quality stuff. But somewhere along the line, starting roughly ten years ago, I became extremely sensitive to scents, so much so that I can't stand incense, essential oils, as especially cologne and perfume. Just being around those make me light-headed and/or gives me a headache.
But even thus, when I smell a little patchouli oil, I get nostalgic and fond memories of some pretty interesting times come flooding back. Then I get a headache.....

The "wannabe" hippies today still wear it. There's a fella at work you can smell a mile away. He must have the REALLY good stuff:icon_biggrin:
