Here's a little excerpt from the article...
Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie, who impishly tweaks the NCAA at every turn, came under fire not once, not twice but three times in the past six months. First he lured a verbal commitment from an eighth grader, prompting the National Association of Basketball Coaches to recommend coaches refrain from making scholarship offers until after a recruit's sophomore year of high school.
Ouch! I like the way he say's, "I think the rule should be changed." That's like the fox telling the farmer his fence needs mending.
Someone said Tony Kornheiser called Gillispie a "slug". Is that true?
No love from ESPN.

Old news, 4TC. They've been after Gillispie since the start of last season. No surprises there. :shrug1:
They're trying to imply that rules were broken, and they just plain weren't, because no such rules exist. They were recommendations, nothing more. (But you knew that already..) The only reason it's getting any play at all is because Kentucky was involved. If it was Duke and Coach K, they'd be applauding him for making a shrewd move and using the system to his advantage. (But, you already knew that as well, didn't you? )
But, you got your daily dig in at UK, so we can move on now.

BB75, read the first sentence of that excerpt again.
That's gotta hurt. And I'm not making fun of you.
When a member of the media puts something like that out there. It's doesn't matter if it's true or legal. People are going to read it and assume he is another Calipari...without the recruiting talent.

Certainly it's old news but it's an ongoing problem. UK / Gillispie are not unique, but merely used as an example because the program is a high profile program - as is every other program mentioned in the article.
IMO, that article doesn't indict the coaches so much as it indicts the NCAA and the plethora of rules and ambiguous interpretations. The rule Gillispie speaks of (among many others) certainly should be changed or eliminated.
That rule punctuates how the rules are purposely set up as a loophole allowing for certain otherwise questionable acts to be "legal" in the eyes of the NCAA.

Okay, fine. It's hard to know sometimes when you're reading typed words what the intent was, so if you didn't intend it as smack, that's good. But, as I said, it's no more than what they've (ESPN) been doing for a while now. I don't like it nor does anyone who supports the 'Cats, but what are ya gonna do?
