View Full Version : The decline of Tom Jurich..

Poor Tom, once seen by fans of Little Brother as the nations greatest director of athletics, has begun his fall from grace. As we all well understand, the flag ship program for any D1 university is its football program. The AD's job 1 is to see that the football program is "tops."

Just over two short years ago, UofL, TJ's program, had moved to the upper echelon of D1 football. TJ orchestrated a move to the weakest of the BCS conferences, a conference that his school had a legitimate shot at competing in year in and year out. To the local media it was a masterstroke. Now they had a chance to win a BCS Bowl and possibly a national championship. TJ had made all the right moves it seems in navigating his program to the rarified air where the pundits discuss your program as a possible national championship contender.

Things were good.

Sure TJ had to do some things that other bigtime AD's probably would not accept. He had a coach with wandering eyes who seemingly didn't understand what the UofL fans understood. UofL was a national power and Petrino, any coach for that matter, should feel lucky to be here. But for some reason. Petrino never really grasped the concept that Little Brother had arrived as a powerhouse and always looked for the next train ride out of river city. In the process Petrino exposed flaws, made Jurich look weak, like a battered spouse. Petrino always professed his love in public as he disrespected TJ in private...."I do love you hon, put some ice on that lip."

When John L left town, cell phones a blaring on the sidelines, TJ proved his metal and hired Petrino who improved on their place in the pecking order. John L was good, but Petrino was better. And John L said all those nasty things on his way out of town about little brother and its fans. The program could do without him.

But even with a coach in Petrino whose extracurricular activities exposed a weakness in TJ and with a schedule of Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday night games intended to line the coffers of the athletic department as it disrespected his fans...UofL was part of the mix and Little brothers fans loved him for it. Jurich had done his job seeing that the UofL was moving, although wobbly, in the right direction. They were a football school now. Then all of that changed with a thud.

The audacity of ego. Jurich fumbles the ball.

If the AD's job as stated above is to keep its football program at the top of the heap.....then how do you explain the Kragthorpe fiasco? TJ and his ego are so large that he broke all university protocol and created his own one man hiring committee. He took 48 hours to hire the man who would in record time bring the program crashing to its knees.

Mitch Barnhart if given the chance to scuttle a rival by hiring UofL's football coach couldn't have done a better job.

So for now all that talk about Tom Jurich being viewed as the nations best AD had stopped. He's fumbled the Kragthorpe hire so badly and painted himself into a box that it will be fun watching him try to get out of it.

From someone who obviously enjoys books with lots of pictures your comment is not surprising.

How about a report card on Mitch? His football team finishes 6-6 and the basketball team is 3-2. Are we supposed to believe this is what the UK fans wanted?

Our basketball team is 4-2, thank you very much. Our football team is 6-6 and is going to it's third bowl game in a row. Your football team is on bleetin' life support, having lost five games in a row, and is looking at, in all probability, making it six games in a row. You all won't even be able to make hotel reservations for a bowl game. This is only a year removed from all the high and mighy predictions of an undefeated Cardinal football season and a national championship. Oh, and there's also the little detail about how construction on the expansion of the Pizza Pit has been put on hold.
Oh, I forgot, the Cardinal Double Standard is in place here. We're not supposed to bring anything up that makes Louisville look bad and history only counts if it favors Louisville, right?
That's the only thing you guys have left. Sitting around hoping some other team does well against the 'Cats so you can try and ride on it.

Typical Cardinal mantra. :icon_rolleyes:

This thread is not about MB.

That said, we are bowling again this year. You? Job 1 for the AD. Check.

Our basketball team just thumped one of the Big Easts top teams. Check.

Our volleyball team is highly rated and NCAA bound. Check.

I'd say things are all good.

TJ could win AD of the year again. Would you care to guess what the odds Of Mitch winning it would be?

CARDINAL DOUBLE STANDARD ALERT!

Each time you guys make a post, all you do is prove my point further. History and records only matter when it supposedly favors the Cardinals.
And all you're reduced to is bragging over what award Jurich MIGHT win?
It figures.
Jurich and U of L can take the 32nd ranking, go to the nearest McDonald's, put down six bucks, and buy a value meal of their choice.

Whoopee. :icon_rolleyes:

playing in the Big Least gives you an advantage in every sport. Put UL in the SEC in every sport and see what your record is. Your budget looks better because you pimp your football team out (they call you an ESPN whore) to pay for everything. Nice try , though!

I don't like Mitch...his political ties got him that job and he's underachieved considering what he has to work with. And I'm a UK alum.

But I live in Louisville and I hear it on the local radio stations: Jurich has rubbed fans the wrong way the last couple of years. Like a lot of successful men he has an ego and it's catching up with him.

Well, let's see. On Tom Jurich's watch, UofL has been to a Final Four, a CWS, and Won a BCS bowl. That's all I need to know to figure out which AD is doing a better job.

All Mitch does is water down schedules to get easy wins.

Yet again, catfan02 avoids the facts.

RPI? We're three games into the season. Who cares what an RPI is after just three games?

What was UK's RPI after three games? Bet it wasn't very good.

And unless your Cardinals can pull a bleetin' miracle out of their pockets tonight, you won't be going to a bowl period because you won't have a winning record.

Oh, since you seem to be so aware of what UK's record is, maybe you ought to take into consideration that maybe those teams were on their way to a winning record until the 'Cats got a hold of 'em.

Do the numbers 27-2 mean anything to you?

Most likely, no. That's beside the point, which is if Louisville was listed anywhere in that list as it stands right now, you guys would start at least two threads bragging about it and "wondering" why UK wasn't listed as high or higher, and you know you would because you've done it before.
The only reason you're downplaying it now. Which is why you all keep proving that for Cardinal fans, history and records only matter if they favor Louisville.

I could care less about RPI rankings. About all they're really good for is determining tournament seeds at the end of the year.
