http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/classrankings?classyear=2009&classmonth=11

Tubby had the #25 class last year and has the #10 class this coming year according to ESPN. ( including a nice looking point guard)

Billy G had the #19 class last year and is not ranked in the top 25 for this coming year so far by ESPN.

Anybody starting to miss Ole Tubby?

Nope.
I appreciated Tubby while he was here and I thought a lot of the flak he took the last two years of his tenure was undeserved, but he chose to leave and I wish him nothing but the best. He's a fine man, a class act, and a great coach.

Having said that, I would take Coach G over Tubby any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Tubby (great person and coach) was 20-14 last year and lost in the first round of the NIT!
Why on earth would we want him back?? Kentucky doesn't do the NIT! Even in a year that saw us lose to Gardner Webb at home, we still made the Big Dance. Tubby is right where he needs to be. 20 wins a year and the fans in Minnesota will think he is GOD!

Tubby's doing a great job at Minnesota.

But he's recruiting pretty much like he was here for the last two years. #19 recruiting classes (if you land them consistently) are going to make you a consistently good team, but at Kentucky you should be able to recruit at an elite level.

Gillispie's had to overcome some oversights from the past staff. Just as Pitino had to reinvigorate recruiting at Louisville when he got there, Gillispie's had to do the same.

He's done a pretty outstanding job so far. The 2009 rankings do not factor in Matt Pilgrim, and it's pretty much assumed we're going to add one more (Jai Lucas, maybe).

Gillispie hasn't had that jaw-dropping tandem of signees that you see at places like North Carolina, but he has landed stellar individual players (Patterson, Miller, Ferguson). It's flat-out amazing how nonexistent Kentucky has been in AAU circuits, and that's not a situation you can easily crawl out of in one year's time.

is not ranked? Orton is a 5 star and Hood a 4 star. That should be enough for a ranking????????????????????????????????

ESPN gives Orton a 97 rating, but says he is severely injured. Hood only gets a 89 rating and Vilarino gets an 88. On ESPN that gives you a class just outside the top 25. Please note, this is ESPN's own ranking system not mine.

To contrast, ESPN ranks UNC's ( #1) recruits like this:
Henson 98
Strickland 97
McDonald 96
D Wear 92
T Wear 92

Tubby's in a good spot for his style of player & play. And he's at a place where college bball is frankly not that important.

I lived in St. Paul for a few years and here's what they care about:

1. Pro hockey
2. College hockey
3. High school hockey
4. Vikings
5. Twins
6. Maybe, maybe Gopher basketball but I doubt it.

He'll be fine there, maybe even great but great there is not great here. If he averages 20 wins a year they'll love him forever, it's a win/win for all concerned.

Not by ESPN.

So? ESPN isn't the final word on everything related to sports.
Why does everything have to be turned into smack? Why can't we both just enjoy the fact that we have two high ranked recruiting classes and let it go at that?

thread would be a joke, which it is anyway! Tubby goes to the NIT last year and UL fans think we want him back. Clue, Cards fans, the NIT is the NOT IMPORTANT TOUNAMENT, in case you didn't know.

Class rankings are like aceholes.

Everyone has one and some reek more than others..............but they ALL reek to some extent.

Then there's those who like the smell of their own..............

Be it us, or fans of UT, UofL, IU, etc................

When Rick retires in a couple of years, you guys can bring in Tubby and the ball line D. Then you can be a bunch of 2nd hand losers AGAIN.

I'm tickled to death that Tubby is doing well. He and Donna are first class people. Tubby is a good coach and even better mentor and example for his players. I'm not sending Billy Clyde down the road yet. Sheesh! To tell you the truth, I have to wonder who would have been able to come in and have a top 10 ranked team after one year. As for UL....not going there. Its Christmas time :icon_twisted:

ESPN has the worst rating system in the nation. They are right up there with SI. But, they are obviously the only one you are willing to use because it the only one that might even come close to proving whatever silly point you had.

The point IS Tubby is doing a good job. It is YOUR fan base that turned this thread into a recruiting diatribe. I used ESPN as a courtesy to this board since both Rivals and Scout are in direct competition with this site.

YOU might think YOU were trying to make a point for Tubby BUT the post I was replying to was the one where you were comparing our recruits and they rankings. I was simply telling YOU the reason why YOUR numbers might look like that way is that YOU are using the worst recruting rankings there are. If YOU use some others then YOU might find YOUR point has a little less point.

Tubby is doing a good job for Minn. and that is good for him.
