In this thread, I want us all to give reasons why we think our team WON'T win it all. OK, I'll go first.
#1. UNC, I just don't see anyone beating them if they are all healthy.
#2. Point guard position. I hate to say it, but Edgar Sosa can get me so mad at him with the way he plays sometimes. He has the talent, but not the brain. If he would concentrate on being a POINT GUARD and not a player who wants to take over the game, I would like our chances much better.
#3. Earl Clark needs to get a mean streak. Or at least stay awake while he's on the court. He looks as if he is sleep walking in some games. It's frustrating because he has all the talent in the world, but he acts (sometimes) as if all he has to do is step on the floor and he'll get 20 and 10. Doesn't work that way, Earl.
#4. There is no one to come in and give the offense that Samardo Samuels offers if he were to get into foul trouble or foul out. I like what I see from George Goode, but he is no Samardo Samuels.
#5. T-Will's suspect three point shooting. I love the guy, he gives it all at all times, but shooting is not his strong point, yet he seems to think it is.
#6. Free throw shooting. This may be the very thing that costs UofL a game in the tournament.
#7. Cockiness. This was apparent in the WKU game and in the first 30 minutes of the Austin Peay game. Just because you are ranked in the top ten, doesn't mean you ARE a top ten team. I believe they are, I also believe THEY believe they are, too, at times.
#8. David Padgett is not walking through that door. David was one of my all time favorite players ever for UofL. The guy was the glue that held this team together. So far, I don't see anyone taking up the slack like David did last season.
Well, that's as honest as I can be. I think all of the above could be fixed, but #2, I am very leery of. Sosa has been here for over two seasons and I have yet to think that he has accepted the role that Pitino wants him to play.

Good analysis.
#1. I don't think anyone can beat UNC.
I can't give you anything on UL. The only thing that I have seen of UL is highlights. I've not seen 1 game.
The thing that has got me the last few seasons with UL is the amount of 3's they shoot when they cannot hit the broad side of a barn. If they are going in, keep shooting, but when they are not go inside.
And the PG spot sounds very similar.

UNC wins it all this year so really nothing else I would have to say would really matter

1 - Point-guard play. Too erratic and not enough basketball IQ yet to compete with some of the standout guards in the country.
2 - Turnovers. An indication of our PG play, but that's not the only reason why we turn the ball over.
3 - Inexperience. We're running with one senior of never leaves the bench, a junior who didn't play last season so is basically a sophomore, and we're led by a sophomore who is carrying a huge load on his back right now in Patterson, and our best point guard is a freshmen. They need to just continue to get some quality games under their belt. UNC was good for them, and Louisville will be good for them too.
4 - Not enough shooters. Jodie Meeks, and then ... ? That's about it, and even Jodie is pretty inconsistent at times when he is trying to carry the team.
5 - Not enough bench production. We're getting there, but we've still got a ways to go.

until Billy G brings in an Acie Law type point guard, we will not win a national championship. I think Liggins is capable down the road, but not now. We also lack a true center. Patterson is playing out of position and will be helped with the addition of Orton. Ferguson in the class of 2010 will give us that all around player we are lacking. The future looks bright, just not 2009!

The main resaon Ut will not win it: They will hardly be tested in the SEC this year, and the lack of competition from the other big name schools in the conference(won't name names to avoid hurt feelings) will catch up with them in the final four.
Plus UT will be a 6 seed, after losing to a couple of those big name schools who won't bring much competition.
You know the SEC is down when a the almighty SEC dominant Vols are claiming "not much competition". I honestly can't wait until January, when the Vols come into Rupp, on their high horse yet again, and get beat, AGAIN.

I think UNC is a great team, but lots of great teams have been upset in the tourney. Maybe if fully healthy they're a near-prohibitive favorite, but I'd be pleased and not shocked if they were upset. I would enjoy seeing UL have a shot at them, actually, and I would love to see that be a good game.
UK's faults:
1) inexperience, especially at point
2) if Patterson is in foul trouble, they're really hurting inside
3) not enough capable, consistent scorers spread on the floor
There are others but those alone are just too much to allow this team enough upsets to get there.

Were they tested when they lost to Temple last week?

I agree with all your points. This is why we won't make it all the way. I would add Turnovers as well but that is related to inexperience at the point.

PJ, The Vols will win. just look at old school's post. Lack of experience at point guard and lack of scoring options will cost UK both games this year. It will be hard for Ut to win up there, because UK gets more home cooking from the REF's then any other school I've watched over the years.

I have watched UT play three games now and I have to say that you are a little too over confident for the team you have. You have a Center out shooting threes like he is a guard and missing the majority of them. You have Scotty who hasn't learned how to play defense and you have bobby maze who thinks he needs to take over the game whenever they miss two shots in a row.
Now are far as the REF's are concerned I was at the game at Rupp last year. Your comment is completely off base and I know the only reason you are making it is because you are attempting to talk smack. UT does more hand checking and smacking on rebounds than the school for the blind. If the Ref's called all though then your entire team including your coach.

I wouldn't be so cocky on counting two wins. Tennessee fans were gloating last year and they nearly got swept by the CATS minus their best player. I am glad you are starting to make excuses, I am sure you will have more when Tennessee goes down. I think it will be a split decision again this year.
I love it when UT fans guarantee victories. I find it extremely amusing and come January, I will enjoy it even more. The Tennessee team that lost Mr. Put up 50 against UK Chris Lofton and other supporting cast. That was probably you're best team in the past few years, and you still couldn't beat UK in Rupp. A couple of other teams beat UK in last year, GW and San Diego to name a few. How does a team like Gardner-Webb or San Diego beat UK in Rupp. What about in Knoxville? UK lost to Vandy by 43 trillion at vandy, but it takes you all 40 minutes in to beat UK in Knoxville. That UK team that ya'll beat, didn't include Patrick Patterson.
All I'm saying Vols30, don't count your chickens before they hatch. You can judge us all you want by our play in November and December. If you watched college basketball at all last year, you'll see UK played a lot different in the following months.
With love, Have a BLUE and WHITE Christmas!

I'm here. Actually, I didn't see your post as ragging on your own team. You were just giving an honest assessment of why you thought the Cards might not go far in the tournament, and you asked everyone else to do the same. The reason I hadn't posted up to know is so far all the points I would bring up have been covered already, so I was just trying to keep from being redundant.
Besides, I could see you were trying to have a decent discussion and I didn't see any point in trying to turn it into smack.

They sure did not help us against Wyoming ...LOL!! If you are talking about the UK game, UT was going to win Fulmer's last game. I don't remember a play that was missed by the ref's.
You guys have a classy coach in Rich Brooks. He said alot of nice things about Fulmer, and it was nice of him to give Fulmer a hug at the end of the game. I'm starting to get a little emotional.
